Green waste collections to resume in Liverpool

LIVERPOOL'S garden waste collection service is to resume from Monday, 22 March 2021. The date is later than usual because of the Covid Pandemic which has resulted in a rise in the amount of domestic waste being collected as people are spending more time at home, and staff absence due to sickness and self isolation.

There has been a 9% increase in domestic waste and a 23% increase in recycling during the Pandemic, which has meant that Liverpool Street Scene Services have had to focus on maintaining purple and blue bin collections.

Seasonal staff are now being recruited and additional waste collection vehicles have been secured to deliver the green bin service. Residents are asked to put their green bin out on their normal day, from Monday, 22 March 2021. If people have ordered a replacement garden waste wheelie bin, it will be delivered in the next few weeks.

Cabinet member for street scene services, Councillor Sharon Connor, said:- "We would like to thank residents for their patience and understanding in relation to the green bin collection service. We have rightly been focusing our efforts on making sure we were able to deal with the increased amounts of domestic and recycling as a result of people being at home during lockdown. We are now in a position to resume the green collections in time for the end of winter, when we know people will start work in their gardens such as cutting the grass and pruning bushes and hedges."

A list of bin collection dates can be found at:- Liverpool.Gov.UK.

Waste Figures:-

7,711 extra tonnes of domestic waste was collected, a 6.52% increase.

Recycling collections were up 17.62%, with 5,442 extra tonnes picked up.

Green waste collections rose 2.11%, despite being suspended, from March to May 2021, due to the Pandemic.

The Florrie charity runner runs ˝ Marathon in alley due to self isolating + fund raising

ON Saturday, 27 February 2021, Sefton Park Rangers' 40 squad members ran the distance of Liverpool to Amsterdam in aid of The Florrie after they found out where struggling for funding. And the weeks of Training paid off. With a cumulative distance of 812k, they smashed their ₤2,000k target and it keeps rising, now close to ₤5,000.

As well as many runners in Liverpool, some were as far afield as Australia and Stockholm, with the team using Strava to feel connected.

1 of the Sefton Park Rangers team, Gaz Thomas, had a particularly odd run. He had to self isolate due to coming in contact with someone with Covid, but his urge to not let the team down did not stop him. To help the effort to raise funds for The Florrie led Gaz to run a complete ˝ Marathon in the back alley of his house just off Aigburth Road, running up and down the confined space for over 2 hours to over 21k. What an effort.

The lads are hoping to break the ₤5k barrier, by Friday, 5 March 2021, when the fundraiser ends:- Fundraiser by Sefton Park Rangers; Sefton Park Rangers; Liverpool to Amsterdam Run (GoFundMe.Com)

Children and families need your help more than ever; please donate your daily commute or coffee

AS the Coronavirus crisis worsens, more and more vulnerable children and young people are feeling the effects of repeated lockdowns, uncertainty and isolation. The impact of the 2nd wave is pushing a generation of the most vulnerable children in our country into a downward spiral of deprivation. Barnardo's are asking people to donate what would have been the cost of their usual daily commute or coffee to support these children and their families, so they can deal with the immediate challenges they are facing today.  Barnardo's can support them with vital things, like putting food on the table, paying for heating and electricity (especially in the recent cold temperatures), affording data so children can keep up with School online, and having access to counselling as children and young people all across the country are struggling with their mental health. A week's worth of coffees could mean a week's worth of food for a child. With your help we can deliver the practical and emotional support families in crisis need. You can help by supporting our Children in Crisis Appeal today via Barnardo's Just Giving Page.
