Dungeons and Dragons 24 Hour Charity Live Stream
Photos and report by Sean Taylor.

ON Friday, 20 of August, the cosy private gaming room, at Crit Hit Game Hub, in Liverpool's Fabric District, hosted a 24 Hour Dungeons and Dragons marathon. Although, not quite… Starting at 6pm, on the Friday, the odds were stacked against our ambitious adventurers, with 1, Will, failing to arrive due to illness. The remaining explorers:- Josh, Andy, Caitlin and Kirie, guided by resident Dungeon Master Alex, embarked in high spirits, but somewhat weary from the week's last workday. Without the sponsorship of Beyond NRG; a UK based energy formula company; they may have been slightly less optimistic. The 1st couple of hours were hindered by teething technical issues, but once resolved, the stream, hosted on:- Twitch.TV, ran somewhat smoothly (a hearty meal delivered by local poutine purveyors Caribou, helped very much in that regard as well).

Over the hours that followed, dungeons were explored and monsters were slain, but an incident outside the venue, at 2am, involving an apparently intoxicated patron suffering with a punctured Nike Airmax, was perhaps the evening's most memorable interaction. For the remaining duration of the stream:- "av burst me airmax" became a punchline enjoyed by all, with the exception of Alex; who was less enthused even upon its initial rendition.

Come daylight, things were still going smoothly. Despite being fuelled by caffeine, and a delicious and balanced McDonald's breakfast, being awake for 24 hours at this point was starting to take a serious toll. By 10am, Caitlin fell prey to a demon of fatigue, and it was decided that 3 adventurers daren't face any further demons without the strength of their party. Kirie had a long drive home back to the Midlands.

At this point, well aware of the promise to Age UK Wirral and everyone who donated, of a 24 hour live stream, but unable to continue the adventure, the reinforcements were called in the form of Matt and Tish. From there, they proceeded to play a few other popular games, including:- Magic the Gathering, Warhammer Underworlds and Warhammer 40,000 Kill Team, in order to at lEast hit the target of a 24 hour gaming live stream!

After much laughter, stress, and hardcore gaming, over ₤200 was raised for Age UK Wirral, somewhat short of the target amount of ₤1000. In an objective sense, this exercise in endurance may have arguably missed the mark, but this will only embolden any future efforts!  With all that being said, any money raised for a good cause can't be a bad thing, and, with hindsight at lEast, a good time was had by all; and isn't that what gaming with friends is really about?

THE Dead of Night Film Festival is brought to you by 2 Headed Snake Entertainment and The Liverpool Horror Club and is part of the ever growing International horror film festival circuit. It's currently the only horror film festival in Merseyside, England. The objective of our festival is to bring new independent horror short and feature length films to the genre loving public of Merseyside.

This year we will screen 6 feature films and 15 short films in the amazing Southport Bijou Cinema auditorium with 75 comfortable seats and an Optoma 8000 lumens projector, plus 5.1 Surround Sound to present an immersive cinematic experience." said Event Organiser, Stuart Jopia.
