Finding out more about the Climbing Hanger re-opening

LIKE all UK leisure and indoor sports centres and facilities, The Climbing Hangar has been closed in recent months, due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, and is welcoming back both existing and new climbers having been given the green light following the Government's announcement at the end of July 2020... In Liverpool, the groups flagship climbing wall, in Sandhills, before lockdown, was receiving more than 100,000 customers and that lead to a new centre being opened, at  the Matchworks Estate, in Speke, as well, due to it's success.  The location features a bright and comfortable cafe and licensed bar with views of the climbing facility, serving a variety of fresh, ethically sourced food and great, local coffee, along with an amazing 11,200 sq foot indoor climbing wall. Several of the site’s original climbs have been set by British number 1 and former bouldering world champion, Shauna Coxsey, who is a Hangar Ambassador.

Ged Macdomhnaill, founder of The Climbing Hangar, said:- "We are please to be able to re-open the Matchworks Estate site. In line with the new guidelines and restrictions it is now essential to book a climbing slot in advance to help manage flow and capacity at the site. In addition to this new booking system a range of measures have also been introduced to ensure the safety of each climber. This includes marked one way paths on the mats to make it easy for people to know where to stand while waiting to climb and for ease of movement around the centre, dedicated cleaning rotas between slots and deep cleans between off peak and peak times and on close each day, as well as an increased number of sanitiser stations around the sites to make it easier than ever for visitors to clean their hands and look after one another."

Just after the reopening last week, we were invited to take a look at this fantastic, international sporting facility, that boasts hang out spaces, kids’ climbing and training facilities for those aged seven and over, and free onsite parking. We also got to learn more about the new climbs, that will be created at the site, every week, to ensure that there is always something new and interesting to try, regardless of climbing ability or experience.

Sefton Council reminding hospitality businesses and their customers about Coronavirus safety

AS the Bank Holiday weekend approaches, Sefton Council is reminding local businesses and their customers of the importance of following the Government's Covid-19 guidance. For businesses in the Hospitality sector such as pubs, bars and restaurants this means keeping a temporary record of their customers to assist the NHS Test and Trace should Coronavirus cases develop. This is in addition to maintaining the distancing and cleaning measures required to help keep their clients safe. For customers, this means following any of the measures in place for their protection and making sure they provide any Test and Trace information requested on arrival.

Cllr Ian Moncur, Sefton Council's Cabinet Member for Health and Wellbeing, said:- "Pubs and bars should have in place a way of recording their customers' contact details so that if there are cases of Coronavirus associated with the premises, they can be traced, warned and instructed to isolate. These simple measures on arrival are for the protection of customers and staff but are also there to protect the Hospitality sector and the wider economy by reducing the possibility of a wider Covid-19 outbreak and the potential need to introduce local restrictions, which would have a negative effect on everyone. Personally, if I arrived at a pub bar or restaurant that didn't have tracing measures in place, I wouldn't stay."

Sarah Rodriguez from Southport BID said:- "Business owners in Southport have worked incredibly hard since reopening to ensure their customers and staff are safe and have shown a great deal of respect for the social distancing guidelines as a community. We do back Sefton's plea to ensure that we work together to ensure that these high standards continue across the busy Bank Holiday and beyond. As a team, we are available for any support and resources to help you implement the measures are available on our website:- SouthportBID.Com."

Sefton Council's Environmental Health team has been working with businesses across the Borough to help them put in place the measures needed to keep employees and customers safe. Government guidance Information is also available at:- Gov.UK. Information to help businesses of all types identify and manage Coronavirus outbreaks, in the form of downloadable and printable Action Cards can also be found on Sefton Council's website at:- Sefton.Gov.UK.
