More than 60 people fined for Covid breaches after illegal rave in Formby

MERSEYSIDE Police have issued more than 60 people with fixed penalty notices for breaching Covid regulations following reports of an illegal rave, in Formby, within the early hours of Sunday, 7 February 2021. We are told that at around 12.50am, patrols went to Formby Beach after reports of groups of people and loud music were reported in the area. Officers estimated around 100 people were present. DJ equipment and lighting were seized and 64 people were issued with fixed penalty notices. We are also told that 2 people were also arrested on suspicion of possession of Class A and B drugs.  Deputy Chief Constable Serena Kennedy said:- "Those who attended the event in Formby were astoundingly irresponsible. They were not only breaking the law, but have put anyone that they come into contact with over the next few days, including their friends, family and colleagues, at risk of catching and spreading Coronavirus with their utterly selfish behaviour. Targeted testing for the South African Covid variant is currently taking place across three wards in Sefton after a 2nd case of the new variant was detected. We have also seen cases of the E484K mutation of Coronavirus, in Liverpool, this week. It is now as important as ever that our communities in Sefton and across Merseyside stick to the national lockdown rules which means people should not be leaving their homes for non-essential reasons or meeting up with other people outside their household or support bubble. It is only by following the rules that we will stop the spread of this deadly virus. If we all pull together, we will be able to return to normality a lot sooner. We need to do everything we can to protect the public during this pandemic and, rest assured, Police will not hesitate to take action when people show such blatant disregard for the rules, as we saw in Formby. Anyone with information on who organised this event, who attended or any future planned similar events is asked to get in touch with us by calling:- 101 or contact Crimestoppers UK, completely anonymously, on:- 0800 555 111."

Ofgem to raise energy price cap by £96

IN a press release sent to us, stating Ofgem is about to raise energy price cap by £96, Pascale Robinson, Campaigns Officer for 'We Own It' said:- "It's frankly insulting that at a time when millions of people are struggling to pay their bills, Ofgem has seen fit to raise the energy price cap by a staggering £96. Private energy companies have been fleecing the public for decades, and this latest announcement will see them ripped off even more. It's clear that Ofgem is a toothless regulator, that can't and won't stop private energy companies extracting as much money as possible out of people through their energy bills. The only way we will deliver a fair energy system is to kick out the private companies and the profiteers, and bring it into public ownership. It would save us billions, allow us to tackle fuel poverty and build an energy system ready and able to respond to the climate emergency."  What are your thoughts on this, should this prise rise happen? 2 arrested and more than 50 people fined for Covid breaches at gym in Speke

MERSEYSIDE Police informed us that they had received reports that Prophecy Performance Centre, on Gaskill Road, Speke, had been operating as a gym in breach of current Covid restrictions. Officers are reported to have attended the gym, in Speke, at around 1pm, on Sunday, 7 February 2021, and saw that it was operating, with multiple people gathered inside. As a result Officers arrested 2 people and issued 52 fixed penalty notices. Police also identified that the doors of the gym were locked and contacted Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service (MFRS) to investigate potential breaches of fire safety regulations. On top of that, it was further reported that customers at the gym had been stopped from leaving the premises to prevent them being detected by Police. This lead Officers to arrest a 24 year old male and a 33 year old female on suspicion of false imprisonment and are being questioned by Police.

Deputy Chief Constable Serena Kennedy said:- "The incident in Speke today shows that we won’t hesitate to work with our partners to take robust action against businesses on Merseyside who continue to flout Covid restrictions. By continuing to operate, the owners of this gym were putting themselves and their customers at risk of catching and spreading Covid at a time when we all need to work together and follow the rules to tackle this deadly virus. While we know that this Pandemic has been really tough for businesses that have been forced to close, it is only by adhering to the rules that we will be able to put a stop to this Pandemic and hopefully see a return to normality more quickly. Officers will continue to respond to potential Covid19 legislation breaches across Merseyside to ensure Public Health and Government guidance is being adhered to, and is for the safety of all residents and business owners."

Following an inspection from Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service, the premises was also found to be in breach of fire safety regulations as all of the fire doors were padlocked shut. The gym was closed with immediate effect and a further fire safety inspection will take place tomorrow. 10 cars parked illegally outside the gym also received parking fines.

If you have information on criminality, anti social behaviour or events and gatherings planned illegally, you can contact them on the non-emergency number:- 101, message them on Twitter, or alternatively you can also call Crimestoppers anonymously on:- 0800555111.
