Major Incident has been declared by London Mayor could mean tighter Lockdown rules to come

ON 8 January 2021, a Major Incident has been declared by London Mayor, Sadiq Khan, as according to him, the spread of the Coronavirus within the Capital is now:- "out of control." The Coronavirus infection rate in London has exceeded 1,000 per 100,000 people, based on the latest figures from Public Health England. However, the UK's Office for National Statistics has recently estimated that as many as 1 in 30 Londoners has the virus. A major incident is declared when the Emergency Services and Hospitals cannot guarantee their normal level of response. This means the level of emergency requires the implementation of special arrangements by 1 or all of the emergency services, the NHS, or the Local Authority.

We are told that more Londoners are in Hospital now with Coronavirus than at the peak of the 1st Wave back in April 2020, and those numbers are growing by more than 800 every day!

This rise has also meant that the London Ambulance Service was currently taking up to 8,000 emergency calls a day, compared to 5,500 on a typical busy day. Also, pressure has been placed on the London Fire Brigade, with more than 100 firefighters had been drafted in, to drive Ambulances, to help cope with the demand.

Unsurprisingly, with this in mind, within the past week, many parts of the Capital also saw a rise in deaths, where a person had tested positive for Coronavirus, within the previous 28 days. In some areas of London, this recording was more than double the number of deaths compared with the previous week.

London Mayor, Sadiq Khan, said that currently, there are more than 7,000 people in London's Hospital with Covid19. This is an increase of 35% compared to April 2020, in the 1st Peak of the Pandemic.

London's Regional Director for Public Health England, Kevin Fenton has said that the latest wave of Coronavirus was:- "the biggest threat" to the capital since the start of the Pandemic. He also urged Londoners to:- "cut contacts" and "reduce movements."

The UK is at a tipping point and without proper financial help, we will see more people breaking the rules, so Sadiq Khan, has written to Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, asking for more financial support, for Londoners, who need to self isolate and are unable to work, along with daily vaccination data to be given out.

We are told that the Metropolitan Police have handed out 1,761 fines for breaches of Coronavirus laws between 27 March 2020 and 20 December 2020. And, now Deputy Assistant Commissioner, Matt Twist has told the media that:- "Rule breakers cannot continue to feign ignorance of the risk that this virus poses or listen to the false information and lies that some promote downplaying the dangers. Every time the virus spreads it increases the risk of someone needlessly losing their life."

This has led to mar calls for the UK Lockdown to be made stricter following a rise in anti-lockdown protests in London, and a surging case numbers within other areas of the UK.

Also, an extension has been given to these facing eviction notices. The ban on eviction has now been extended within England and Wales. They nan had been due to end on Monday, but for those facing eviction will now have a stay of 6 more weeks, within England and longer in Wales. Extra cash is also being requested to help house rough sleepers over the cold weather with many charities asking why the Government has not acted sooner?

Meanwhile, on 9 January 2021, The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh have received their Coronavirus vaccinations, at Windsor Castle, joining thee million plus people who have been given their jab, in the UK, so far.
