Readers ask:- "When will blue bins for glass recycling arrive in Sefton?"

BACK in September 2020 Sefton Council's Cabinet approved the procurement of new wheelie bins for glass recycling. The idea was to obtain approximately 100,000 new blue bins to removing glass from the current brown bin collection. Since the announcement to that this plan to separate glass recycling collections would start in March and April 2021, no bins have arrived. As a result we have had many residents asking about the project as they want to know what is going on. We contacted Sefton Council, who have confirmed that:- "The blue bins scheme has been temporarily postponed due to Covid19."

New whiplash tariffs "offensive" say lawyers

THE Association of Personal Injury Lawyers (APIL) is a not for profit campaign group which has been committed to injured people for more than 30 years. They say that the proposed whiplash tariffs would be a blunt instrument to deal with a problem that never existed, lawyers have said ahead of parliamentary debates next week.

"The proposed tariffs for whiplash injuries are derisory and offensive and will almost certainly leave people under compensated. The lowest tariff provides just ₤ 240 for pain and suffering that will affect an injured person for up to 3 months; this is not anywhere near the appropriate level of compensation. Imagine if you are the parent of a small child that you can't pick up to comfort, or an athlete who can't compete, or a retiree who is unable to go out and about for those 3 months. Injured people are going to be taken aback when they have a crash and find out that their injury and the months of pain, discomfort, and stress are worth less than the cost of a new sofa. Only the insurance industry will benefit from this new tariff. It allows insurers to save money at the expense of injured people who will no longer receive full and fair compensation."
Sam Elsby, president of the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers (APIL).

The Whiplash Injury Regulations 2021, which introduce the new tariff, will be debated by peers on Monday, 26 April 2021, can be seen by downloading a pdf or going to:- Legislation.Gov.UK.
