A Wet and cold
Dickensian Day 2010

WHAT a terrible shame that the one wet
day during the current cold snap fell on Saturday, 4 December 2010,
when Formby was staging its annual Dickensian Day delights. Intrepid
stall holders, many in impressive Victorian costume, turned out
regardless and did their very best to present a cheerful front for
their customers. Although probably well down on other years, turnout
was consistent, many braving the murk to visit, if only for a short
while, the stalls and exhibits, mostly run by charities hoping to
swell their coffers in these straitening times.

Father Christmas’ Grotto, children’s
entertainers including face painting, fairground rides, model
railway, steam organ and other attractions to provide excellent
entertainment. Welcome substance was provided by Brough’s the
butchers grill and by charity groups; with a variety of snacks and
drinks including delicious mulled wine available. Hopefully, people
managed to clear their expenses and make a little profit for their
organisations. Their efforts were appreciated.
