Proposed housing developments in Formby

RESIDENTS in Altcar Lane have contacted us about a planning application that has been submitted to Sefton Council, by Morris Homes (Ref:- DC/2018/00020) to build 24 dwellings on farmland opposite 34 to 70 Altcar Lane. Residents have told us that they are extremely concerned by this and have told us they have only just been informed about it, despite the posters on the lampposts saying they were displayed since 31 January 2018. We are also told that a few letters have been sent out to residents of Altcar Road. We are in the process of contacting Morris Homes for more information about the development and would like to know both sides of the argument. If anyone has any views, please let us know, via posting on our Formby Reporter Facebook Page or emailing us at:- News24@SouthportReporter.Com with your thoughts on this planning application. We will be running a report in the next edition about this development application, so please let us know if you want your name to be included or not, or if you want or do not want to be quoted, when contacting us, in connection to this matter.

Come Together for the Red Cross in Liverpool

Max Newton (Community Fundraising Manager, left) and Sully O'Sullivan (comedian, right)

NEW year, new you? Run for the Red Cross this year and do something amazing for your local community. The British Red Cross is on the lookout for keen runners (or total novices) who want to embrace a challenge in 2018 and run for a fantastic cause in Merseyside.

Do you need a bit of motivation to get yourself back in the gym now that January is over?

Are you looking for an opportunity to support your local community and give back this year?

If so, then this is the perfect opportunity for you!

There are lots of fantastic runs to suit all abilities taking place in Merseyside in 2018 that you can get involved in. To kick it all off on the 25 March 2018, is the Liverpool ½ Marathon, which is a great challenge for the more experienced runner!

The Liverpool ½ will be followed by the Mersey Tunnel 10k, on 15 April 2018, a fantastic race to suit all abilities.

The rest of the runs (all hosted by BTR) will be as follows:-

Port Sunlight 5k and 10k, on 17 June 2018.

Tour of Merseyside, from 1 July to 7 July 2018.

Whistle Stop Tour from 7 September to 9 September 2018.

Wirral 10K and Wirral ½ Marathon, on 9 September 2018.

Max Newton, Community Fundraising Manager in the North, is a seasoned runner (and impassioned Beatles lover) who took on the impressive feat of the Liverpool Marathon last year. Unlike most other runners at the event, however, Max had 3 legs not 2 - to make things even harder he was tied to the comic Sully O'Sullivan in a bid to raise as much money as possible for the Red Cross! He said this about his experience:- "The Liverpool Marathon is 1 of the best marathons I've ever done in my life. The support of the people of Liverpool was amazing and it was fantastic to run past such iconic places. By the last few miles I was thinking 'Help!', but after a bit of twisting and shouting the crowd certainly came together to get me over that finish line! Though it was last year it all seems like yesterday- and thanks to the terrific atmosphere I have memories for life. "

The Red Cross responds to emergencies all over the world and offers aid and support to communities affected by natural disasters, humanitarian crises and other distressing circumstances.

The Red Cross also does vital work supporting members of your local community when faced by an emergency, locally they loan:- wheelchairs, reunite families, respond to house fires, floods and terror attacks, support people at home after a Hospital stay and much more.

If this sounds like a cause worth supporting (we won't make you do it 3 legged, we promise!) then do not hesitate to contact:-  Ella or Kerry for more information.

If you have already signed up but would like to join our team, do so online. Go on... You know you want to!
