Bike and Go publishes quirky bike rides guide to mark English Tourism Week

LEADING bike hire scheme Bike and Go, which has bike hire facilities at Southport, Ainsdale and Formby Train Stations, is celebrating the Region's best 'off the beaten track' cycle rides in a new free publication.

Bike and Go's Quirky Bike Rides Guide is being published to coincide with English Tourism Week, which runs from 17 March to 25 March 2018, and has been compiled with the help of cyclists who responded to an appeal by the bike hire scheme for people to submit their favourite alternative routes.

The guide, which can be downloaded free of charge from:- BikeAndGo.Co.UK from 17 March 2018, celebrates the best 'off the beaten track' places to cycle across Southport, Liverpool, Wirral and beyond.

Even those without bikes can try out one of the routes in the guide by simply hiring a Bike and Go bike from any of the 21 participating Train Stations across the Region, including:- Liverpool Central, Moorfields, Aigburth, Ormskirk and West Kirby.

David O'Leary, Director of Bike and Go said:- "English Tourism Week comes at the start of the cycling season, and provides a great opportunity for people to take to two wheels and see their own Towns and Cities from a brand new perspective. I would like to thank the cycling community who have been really keen to get on board with this and help encourage those who rarely use a bike to have some fun with cycling, and we hope that people will enjoy trying out their suggested routes."

Bike and Go offers bike hire facilities from 70 participating Train Stations across much of the North West, North East and Yorkshire, East and South East of England, and Scotland.

In 2016 the scheme was praised by a UK division of the travel giant TripAdvisor when it was included in a list of the top 7 bicycle hire companies drawn up by its subsidiary rental company Holiday Lettings.

To hire a Bike and Go bike, users simply need to register their card details online, which they can do via smart phones, tablets, or at home, and pay the annual ₤10 subscription fee. They will then receive a user number via email which will allow immediate bike hire usually charged at just ₤3.80 per 24 hours, up to a maximum of 72 hours, while they wait for their Bike and Go membership card.

The bike can then be returned to any 1 of the participating Train Stations across the country.

14 year old sexual assault in Southport

MERSEYSIDE Police are appealing for information after a 14 year old boy was the sexual assault, in Southport, Monday, 19 February 2018, at around 8.15am. We are told that the victim was at the Bus Stop, on Preston New Road, Southport, between Glenpark Drive and Fairhaven Road, when he was approached by a male, believed to be around 18 years old. The suspect grabbed the victim's penis over his clothing before there was an altercation. The suspect then made off on foot. The suspect is described as white, 18 to 19 years old, with a pale complexion, of medium build, with straight black hair and a long side fringe. He had a short, but full beard and dirty teeth. Extensive CCTV and witness enquiries have been carried out and detectives are now widening the appeal to see if anyone else can come forward with information.

Detective Inspector Jackie Guinness said:- "This was an alarming incident which has left the victim understandably distressed and we will act on all information to find the person responsible. We know from our enquiries that dozens of cars were passing this busy road as the incident took place and may have thought they were witnessing a minor scuffle between 2 youths. I want to emphasise that they may well have witnessed the aftermath of this sexual assault and therefore, any information or dash cam footage which can be provided may be invaluable in identifying the person responsible and removing him from the community. The incident happened close to the Lancashire border, so I would also ask anyone from the Banks or the surrounding areas who may have seen anything to come forward."

Anyone with information is asked contact Merseyside Police on:- 101 quoting reference number:- '18200042626,' or the independent charity Crimestoppers UK on:- 0800 555 111.
