Get away car from Armed Robbery in Southport ends upside down in a Ince Blundell garden

ON Tuesday, 29 May 2018, Merseyside Police were alerted to reports of an armed robbery in progress at Flannels clothes shop, on Tulketh Street, Southport, at around 3:15pm. We are told that a man was reported as entering with what was described as a gun, before stealing items and running off. Merseyside Police said that:- "staff were uninjured, but understandably distressed."

The male suspect then drove off in a black Ford Fiesta Zetec, with the registration:- "CK09 BVW," down Wesley Street, in Southport.

Officers quickly identified the car and it was found to have collided with the wall, next to a house on the junction of Lady Green Court and Victoria Road, Ince Blundell. Merseyside Police said that the male then ran off and was soon detained by Officers. We are told that he was arrested on suspicion of robbery and has been taken into custody. A suspected imitation firearm was recovered from the car along with the suspected stolen property, which is being examined.

Detective Inspector Tony O'Brien said:- "We believe that there were members of the public in the shop who may have witnessed the incident, and we are keen to speak to all of them. Additionally, if you saw a car matching this description, being driven at speed in the areas, let us know and pass on to us any dashcam footage you might have, which may be vital to the investigation."
