Southport Young Musician of the Year winner

VICTORIA Woodier, aged 13, has won the prestigious:- 'Southport Young Musician of the Year Award,' beating 10 other finalists in front of the audience including Southport MP Damien Moore.

Trinity Arts organise the competition, which is in its 4th year and sponsored by Whittakers Schoolwear. Lorna Brown, of Whittakers, said:- "I've loved the diversity of the performances, 1 moved me to tears and others were so extraordinarily moving and intricate, I couldn't believe it."

Damien Moore, MP for Southport, said:- "It was a pleasure to be here tonight and I'm extremely impressed with so many talented young individuals. They are a true inspiration."

Victoria, from Merchant Taylors school, has been playing the flute for 6 years and looks forward to performing at Holy Trinity Church, Southport, within the future. She said:- "I'm so surprised, but very happy!" Her ₤100 prize money was presented by Lorna.

Runner up was Henry Shenton on trumpet, and winner of Most Promising was Lana Jackson, who played on both piano and violin.

Thirty youngsters, aged between 8 and 18, took part in the competition, which saw heats, on Wednesday, with the final, on Friday, 13 July 2018.

Angelina Dorlin Barlow, who was the 1st and 3rd winner of the title, is now also national:- 'Rotary Young Musician of the Year' vocalist. She sang in the interval and judged most promising category.

Categories included:- voice, brass, strings, woodwind, percussion, and piano.


3 mile swim for the Miss England charity "Beauty With A Purpose"

ELLI Wilson who is the new Miss Wirral; previously Miss Liverpool and Miss England award winner Billion Dollar Smile 2018, is taking part in a sponsored 3 mile swim for the Miss England charity:- "Beauty With A Purpose." 

This charity supports children's charities across the world something that Elli Wilson has experienced 1st hand. Elli has travelled to:- India, China, Malawi and Sri Lanka to work with orphaned children after a natural disaster and to rebuild Schools.



Elli said:- "I have seen the significant difference just a small amount of money can do to a child's life. Weather that being; access to safe water, access to an education, or simple necessities such as a blanket or hygiene equipment."

Elli is a part time swimming instructor, as well as being a student; she was a competitive swimmer from the age of 5 swimming for a club on the Wirral, this sparked her interest for teaching as it became one of her favourite hobbies. Due to this, Elli will be doing a 3 mile sponsored swim, in August this year (2018) to raise funds for 'Beauty With A Purpose' ahead of her competing in the Miss England competition for the 2nd time.
