Rail Striking RMT Members are standing strong

RMT members rock solid on Saturday, 8 September 2018, in their continuing fight for safety on Northern and South Western Railway. General Secretary Mick Cash said:- "RMT members are standing rock solid again this morning on both Northern and South Western Railway in the continuing fight for safety, security and access on our trains. It is scandalous that while other train operators have been prepared to engage seriously with RMT on the crucial issue of a guaranteed second safety critical member of staff on their services ARN and SWR have slammed the door in our faces. It's time for both these companies to get out of the bunker and start talking with the union on the issue of the guard guarantee. RMT will not allow safety, security and access on our railways to be compromised in the drive for private profit."

More strike days are set to take place on Northern and South Western Railway services on:-

00.01 hours and 23.59 hours, on Saturday, 15 September 2018.

00.01 hours and 23.59 hours, on Saturday, 22 September 2018.

Liverpool's learning curve

Danielle Wilson outside Newsham Park Adult Learning Centre (ALS1).

School'S in after the long summer break. But it's not just the children who are returning to the classroom, because adults from all over Liverpool are getting ready to broaden their horizons with Liverpool City Council's Adult Learning Service (ALS).  The ALS has put together a packed programme of autumnal educational opportunities which really do offer something for everyone. There are hundreds of courses available which cover everything from Art to Yoga. The courses are for both pleasure and professional development. Adult learners can develop new skills or experience a new hobby. Alternatively you can study for a professionally accredited qualification that could further boost your career or boost your job prospects. Adult learner Danielle Wilson is using the service to pursue her dream of becoming a midwife. The 30 year old, mother of 2, from Norris Green has just successfully completed her GCSE in English thanks to her time with the ALS, which means she can go onto midwifery training.

Danielle Wilson commented that:- "I have already been accepted onto an access course for midwifery, but it was on the condition that I got my GCSE. It's been a really worthwhile experience that means I will be able to fulfil my dream of becoming a midwife."

You can see more of Danielle's story by watching our video all about the Adult Learning Service online now. The Council  has produced a comprehensive ALS course guide which gives details of everything that's on offer and you can view by visiting:- Liverpool.Gov.UK and searching for 'adult learning.'
