Filming of 'Das Boot' on Merseyside

THIS week on Merseyside, people might have spotted a few road closures and that Formby Point (Lifeboat Road) Car Park was taken over by film crews. The area is being used for filming of an '8 part' Sky drama series, called:- 'Das Boot.' The series, that follows on from the 1980's film of the same name.

Film and TV shoots like this might cause some temporary disruption, but in the long run, they bring in jobs as well as boosting the area's prestige, thus helping to boost the local economy, often well after the film or TV series has been shot.

Fly tippers dump suspected asbestos material in the Formby area!

ANY material containing asbestos fibre presents a potential risk to health so when a reader contacted us about:- "selfish" fly tippers dumping what looks like it, we popped over to take a look and alert the relevant agencies. Sadly, fly tippers have been using the old Liverpool/Southport road, that runs parallel with the Formby Bypass. This section is regularly affected by the fly tipping of hazardous items; on the banks of Downholland Brook, along the New Causeway are sites well known to locals. This is a continuous problem for farmers and wildlife, along with the many dog walkers and cyclists who use this area. Unfortunately the area being used is on the boarder of Sefton and West Lancashire Council's, this can be an issue as to who the public can contact about it. It is worth noting that should the waste constitute a lorry load or more, or contains hazardous waste of any kind, or if you see illegal tipping in progress, you should contact the Environment Agency or Crimestoppers. The Environment Agency can be contacted via a National Incident Control Centre on:- 0800 807060. We have also been alerted to other issues of fly tipping within the area, but have found that local residents have cleared it up along with a few local businesses. With Easter Bank Holiday approaching, also the May Bank Holiday, we need to keep more vigilant as it can damage the area's reputation.

Below you can see dumped rubbish hidden in the bushes at a Formby Car Park.

Please email us and let us know if you spot any other suspicious fly tipping as well as letting the authorities know.  you can email us via:- News24@SouthportReporter.Com.
