Letter to the Editor:- "I'm walking 215 miles across the country"

"THIS year I am taking on a very personal challenge, walking 215 miles across the country, with just a tent, my Rescue dog Stuart, and hopefully the goodwill of the British public... We are starting in Southport, following the Trans Pennine Trail through Liverpool and Manchester across the Pennines through Kingston upon Hull, to Hornsea. Although my coast to coast challenge begins on the 8 June 2019, the real journey with Barking Mad Dog Rescue began in September 2015 with the arrival of a little frightened girl named Suzi, our 1st rescue dog, all the way from Romania. For more than 20 years, dogs in Romania have been chased, beaten, captured, abused and killed. They are routinely shot, hanged, poisoned and bludgeoned to death. They are crowded into public shelters, run by the cities, to die of disease, hunger and thirst. Many are not fed at all while waiting their turn to be killed. This neglect and the atrocities committed against dogs drove me out to the shelter in Constansa with my wife to volunteer and see first hand the challenges that Hilary, Gea and the team face every single day. Barking Mad Dog Rescue saves and re-homes as many dogs as possible from the public shelters and needs support to care for and feed the hundreds of dogs who are waiting for their forever homes. This is where I can make a difference, I know my fundraising will have a massive impact on the huge vet bills, building new shelters, spay and neuter programs, food; the listy is endless. We have rescued 3 dogs now, Suzi and Penny her sister, and Stuart who will be my companion on our walk. They are safe but there are so many who still need our help. I am going to post my route, please stop and say hello if you are passing, and donate a little. Thank you. If you would like to know more or thinking about adoption please visit:- BarkingMadDogRescue.Co.UK  To sponsor my walk please use my giving page:- JustGiving.Com/NickShaw0802 and if your on the route and want to cheer me, please do!" Nick Shaw, from Southport, Merseyside.
