Southport Flower Show invites special guests to 90th Anniversary Garden Party

SOUTHPORT Flower Show marks its 90th year this summer and organisers want to invite some very special guests to join the celebrations. More than 50,000 visitors are expected to head to Victoria Park, in August 2019, for what promises to be 1 of the summer's biggest garden parties. And to help celebrate Southport's Anniversary year, there are free tickets on offer to anyone who also has their 90th Birthday during 2019.



If you were born in 1929; or you know someone who was; then a complimentary pass for the show is there for the taking. To claim a free ticket, email the organisers in advance of the show with your name and date of birth. Once you have done this, they will then arrange for you to come into the office with documentation of proof of age and you will receive your free ticket. Visitors of all ages will find something to interest or entertain them at the 2019 Southport Flower Show with entertainment and attractions for all the family. For 9 decades, Southport has been known for its Grand Floral Marquee, show gardens, expert gardeners and growers' competitions. But these days there are also celebrity chefs, stars of children's TV, stage shows, animal displays and much, much more  as you can see in from our coverage of this event within last years edition.

The 2019 Show is also a 90th Anniversary Dinner, at 7pm, on Thursday, 15 August 2019, with a special offer of ₤60 a ticket which includes:- a drink on arrival, dinner, entertainment plus a pass for 1 of the 4 days of the 2019 show.

Diabetes family fun day reaches out to young patients

LAST weekend, many families and children with diabetes took part in a family fun day organised by the Children's Diabetes Team, at Ormskirk Hospital. Everyone was welcome at St Anne's Community Hall, in Aughton, to enjoy a:- musical performance, bake sale, bingo, kids toy tombola, raffle and outdoor games.

Dr May Ng Consultant Paediatric Endocrinologist explained:- "Our Paediatric Diabetes Charitable Fund annually holds the Family Fun Day event to give families and children with diabetes an opportunity to meet socially, away from Hospitals and clinics. We thank all the families, colleagues, local businesses who have generously donated to support the event and our charity."

The Southport and Ormskirk Paediatric Diabetes Team cares for over 150 children with types 1 and 2 diabetes across West Lancashire, Southport and Formby. The team has won many national awards for its innovative work.  Dr May Ng set up the paediatric diabetes fund 10 years ago, for essential learning and teaching materials for patients, and for the team to hold regular evening education sessions for families and children with diabetes.
