The 90th Southport Flower Show - Part 2 of 3
Photographs by Patrick Trollope.

THIS is Part 2 of our coverage of the 90th Southport Flower Show which was held over 15 August to 18 August 2019. This being the 90th, we have lots and lots of photos as well as some video footage, including some 360º video that can be found on our Facebook Pages, Formby Reporter and Southport Reporter.

The event was opened by BBC's Strictly Come Dancing star Bruno Toniollo and VIP Guest, Joyce Fann, who was marking her 90th Birthday, on the same day as the start of the show. Over all the event attracted an estimated 50,000 visitors over the 4 days... attracted an estimated 50,000 visitors over the 4 days. Sadly, numbers were slightly down to what was anticipated, because of the very poor weather conditions, but that did not stop the party atmosphere on Victoria Park.

The Southport Flower Show's General Manager, Ray Roukin commented:- "This has been a fantastic 90th year. The standard of the gardens and displays have been exceptional. We have also seen the highest visitor numbers for many years, despite the weather."

This year's layout was very different to other years, and many remarked to us how nice it was. Especially appreciated was the fact that the opening, main talks and other main entertainment, traditionally held in the band stand had been placed under cover in a very large theatre tent.

Standards of the displays, as Ray Roukin commented were excellent, both within the Grand Floral Marquee and also the Amateur Marquee offering fabulous floral displays. Not to be out done, the Show Gardens also did a stunning job, despite the conditions throughout the year making it exceptionally hard for them to grow the stock needed for these displays.

Exhibitors also took the opportunity to share their passion and encouraged visitors to take up their pastime. Sadly, for some the 90th show was to be the last, and Exhibitors and Traders, both past and present, within the Grand Floral Marquee said good bye to Terry Tasker, who has been the Horticultural Manager, within the Floral Marquees for many years. All of them wished him the very best on his retirement, with a special celebration after the tent closed on the Saturday night.

We would love to hear your thoughts on this event and hear any of your memories both from this show and past shows. Please email them to our newsroom, via:- News24@SouthportReporter.Com.
