Appeal for information after stolen Car crashes into a Southport hair salon

THE Owner of Viva Hair Design on Union Street was extremely upset after seeing the crash involving a suspected stolen Vauxhall Corsa that ended up taking out the shop front, but with help she was back up and running the day later. But we are told that some major work will have to be done to the property after Christmas. Following the crash at around 2:15am, on Monday, 18 November 2019, Merseyside Police issued an appeal for information. We are told that the black Vauxhall Corsa, that was involved in the collision, was reported to have been stolen from Janes Brook Road, Southport. Merseyside Police told us that shortly before the crash, a patrol spotted the Vauxhall Corsa in Seabank Road, Southport. Following a short pursuit it was involved in a collision a that ended up with it smashing into a shop front, on Union Street, Southport.  It also hit a street sign and lamp post. The passenger, who we are told was a 48 year old man, was taken to Hospital for treatment for a head injury. His condition at the time was described as stable. Conservatives to review sentences for assaults on emergency workers

A Conservative majority Government would launch a review into the way the criminal justice system deals with assaults on emergency workers, with a view to doubling maximum sentences. The consultation would ensure that the entire criminal justice system has the resources and capabilities it needs so that perpetrators face justice. The rising tide of assaults on NHS staff, Paramedics, Firefighters and Police and Prison Officers has come despite the maximum sentence for assaulting an emergency worker doubling from 6 to 12 months, in 2019. It would be irresponsible not to look at doubling the sentence again. The Conservatives will always protect our emergency services and violence towards them will absolutely not be tolerated.

Home Secretary Priti Patel said:- "I've been appalled by the increasing numbers of assaults on our brave Police officers and am not going to stand for it.  Part of the solution is giving Police the resources and powers they need to keep themselves safe, but we also need to make sure that the punishment for assaulting an officer truly fits the crime. I will always have the backs of the Police and want to see those who do them harm behind bars for longer. Only a Conservative majority government will get Brexit done and focus on the people's priorities."

Health Secretary Matt Hancock said:- "I love our NHS and have so much admiration for the staff across the country who dedicate their lives to caring for us in our times of need. It is shocking and unacceptable that anyone would have to experience abuse and violence from those they are trying to help. So we are taking action to protect our emergency services workers and ensure that they are safe and secure at work. The Conservatives will always protect our emergency workers; and violence towards them will absolutely not be tolerated."

But others will point out that under the Conservatives their has been a massive rise in these crimes and that it can be linked to the massive cuts within the criminal justice system, along with the resources and capabilities of the Police. Many say that this needs to be addressed fully in order to see the perpetrators who do this type of act, face real justice, so unless the funding problems are fixed, this just a statement to win votes and not a real way to deal with response to the rising tide of assaults on Emergency Workers.  We would love to know what our readers think about this issue?  Please do email us to:- News24@SouthportReporter.ComThe current CPS Legal Guidance on this subject can be viewed on its website.
