Crosby School's Photography Competition returns with 'Sefton' theme and ₤50 prize

CROSBY Camera Club is inviting young photographers to get snapping in 2020 for the chance to win a ₤50 prize. The long running photographic society is holding its 4th Annual Photography Competition for local Schools, in association with The Rotary Club of Crosby. This year's theme is:- 'Sefton Pathways' and the competition is open to young people aged between 6 and 18 years old in participating Schools in Sefton. There's still time for Schools to join in and enter the competition with full details available via the Crosby Camera Club website. Pupils can then participate by taking a photograph based on the theme and entering it as a 6x4 or 7x5 inch print, before the closing date of 6 March, 2020.

Steve Lang, President of Crosby Camera Club, said:- "We're pleased to be able to work alongside Crosby Rotary Club once more to showcase the talented young photographers in our community.  We've set our budding snappers an interesting challenge this year and can't wait to see what they come up with. Our competition asks young people to look beyond the photographs they see daily on their phones and laptops and actually make a print, to hold, display and share with others. The judges hope to see some imaginative and interesting images captured on the roads, routes and paths we travel each day and usually take for granted."

There are 2 separate entry categories:- Juniors, aged 6 to 11, and Young Adults, aged 12 to 18. The winners of each category will receive a prize of ₤50 plus an engraved salver, while runners up in each category will receive ₤25 for 2nd place, and ₤10 for 3rd place. The winning images will be awarded at a presentation evening, on 24 March 2020, at St Luke's Church, Crosby.  To receive full entry details, contact Karen Redfern, Secretary of Crosby Camera Club, via email. Details about Crosby Camera Club are available from the club's website:- CrosbyCameraClub.Net.

A ½ term holiday activity to remember as 10 to 17 year olds in Merseyside get behind the wheel and learn how to drive

Driving lessons for 10 to 17's taking place at Haydock Park Racecourse on 19 February 2020

PARENTS in Merseyside looking for activities to keep their teens and tweens entertained this February ½ term will be able to book their child on their very 1st driving lesson, from age 10!  Young Driver, the UK's largest provider of pre-17 driving lessons, will be running driving lessons, for 10 to 17, year olds, on Wednesday 19 February 2020, at Haydock Park Racecourse. The lessons take place in a dual controlled Vauxhall Corsa with a fully qualified driving instructor. On a realistic road system with junctions, traffic lights and roundabouts, pupils can learn how to get started, steer, change gear and even try a spot of reverse parking thanks to the scheme, which aims to improve the safety of the UK's young drivers. Newly qualified drivers have a shockingly high accident rate, with 1 in 5 having a crash within 6 months of passing their test. Research shows Young Driver past pupils benefit from an extended learning period and are ½ as likely to have an accident in those tricky 1st few months. The scheme has delivered 750,000 lessons since it launched 10 years ago.

Sue Waterfield, head of marketing at Young Driver, said:- "The good thing about having a Young Driver lesson is it's great fun for the young person, but it's also beneficial from a road safety perspective, as a pedestrian, cyclist and a future driver. We also get a lot of comments from parents saying it's helped boost the self-confidence of their child, seeing how they can take on something which they wouldn't typically be able to try. It's definitely got to be cool to be able to go back to School after the holidays saying you've had your 1st driving lesson, at age 11!"

Young Driver also operates at Haydock Park on selected weekend dates across the year. Driving tuition is available for disabled youngsters and birthday parties can also be arranged. Lessons must be booked in advance and last either 30 or 60 minutes. For more information visit:- YoungDriver.Com or call:- 0333 577 9010, today.
