中国新年 4750 - Liverpool - Chinese New Year 2022

THE 1st Chinese New Year Celebrations in Liverpool since the Covid19 Pandemic started took place on Sunday, 6 February 2022. The start of 4750 of the Chinese New Year, or Lunar New Year, started on 1 February 2022, with traditional celebrations culminating in the Lantern Festival, that took place on 15 February 2022.  As part of Europe's oldest Chinese Community, in the shadow of the biggest Chinese Imperial Arch outside of China, the Liverpool Chinese Business Association and Liverpool City Council put on, yet again, the extremely popular annual event, in and around Chinatown.

This event, despite being slimmed down to normal, was still cram packed full of dragon, unicorn and Lucky Man parades, firecrackers displays, pop up traditional Chinese dance displays, food stalls and more. This year, due to Covid19, the only big community event inside, at this celebration, was held within the The Black-E (on the corner of Great George Street and Nelson Street) that had workshops, Lion Dancing and other traditional Chinese dance performances, Tai Chi presentations and other activities throughout the day. Not only that, but Chinese lanterns adorned the trees on many of Liverpool Centre's main streets and a number of Civic buildings where illuminated in red in honour of the new year, signifying good fortune and joy to everyone.

Sadly, due to the wind the fire performances could not take place with the final contemporary Dragon and Lion Dance Displays of this years event, but the LED light Dragon and Lions looked fantastic, as you can see in Part 3 of our video footage. We sadly did not get a chance to photograph the projections that transform St Luke’s Church, commonly referred to as the Bombed Out Church's Tower into a Chinese Pagoda, but we are told that this 10 minute loop show, created by Focal Studios, Scenegraph Studios, was fantastic.
