"The time for reality checks is long gone" - world's most climate vulnerable communities sidelined in new IPCC report

THE International Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) have published its Working Group II report assessing the impacts of climate breakdown and both society and nature's capacity to adapt to our changing world. Reacting for Friends of the Earth, Rachel Kennerley, international climate campaigner, said:- "Once more richer nations publicly position themselves as doing the right thing when it's their own short sighted interests guiding them. What we can see in this report, as we saw at COP26 in Glasgow, is apparently strong language being watered down at the expense of our collective future. When this happens, people who are suffering the most from climate chaos are the ones paying the price. They need and deserve financial assistance, and it's right that countries most responsible for historical pollution offer that financial help. The time for reality checks is long gone: we have the answers and means to step back from the brink of climate catastrophe. It starts with an immediate end to the age of fossil fuels and ramping up the shift to renewable energy with the Governmental support to see that crucial transition through."

Letters to the Editor:- "Nationality and Borders Bill"

"I'M writing to tell other local people about cruel new laws that our MP should be fighting in Parliament. The anti refugee Nationality and Borders Bill breaches the UN convention on refugees. Rules were put in place after the Holocaust to protect all of us if we flee torture, war or persecution. Refugees could be separated from their families, and even locked up. No 1 should be punished for trying to find safety. The bill is being discussed in the House of Lords right now and then it will go back to MPs. I want to call on our MP to do the right thing and vote for the amendment to remove clause 11 from this bill. Clause 11 of the Bill would punish refugees and torture survivors for trying to find safety and prevent people from rebuilding their lives." Roxanne Vella.
