2Gorgeous4U Heads To Liverpool's Royal Court Studio This Summer

AN unmissable 1 woman show by acclaimed playwright Mark Davies Markham is returning to the Liverpool stage this summer after winning rave reviews from audiences and critics alike. 'Comedy 2Gorgeous4U' - From Ladette To Laundrette will be at the Royal Court Studio from:- Thursday, 2 June to Saturday, 4 June 2022. The show, starring Lynne Fitzgerald and directed by James Baker (Cherry Jezebel, Masquerade, Jerry Springer The Opera), was a smash hit when it opened the second Liverpool Theatre Festival in September 2021. It promises audiences an evening packed with laughter, throw backs to the 9ties and a soundtrack guaranteed to bring back memories of the decade.

Clare is a beautician with her own spa and treatment room in Waterloo. Happily single, she is online just in case. Her 1 desire in life is a wet room. But back in the Britpop 1990s, Clare was 1 Ĺ of a pop duo 2Gorgeous4U with her best mate Tina. They were wild, but fell out acrimoniously. Now they have been asked to reform for a music festival in their hometown of Liverpool. But can they put the past behind them and move on; and what was it all about anyway? All set against a musical soundtrack featuring Queen Latifa, Blur, Gabrielle, K-Klass, and plenty more.

Bootle born Mark Davies Markham was 1st praised for his writing ability by Teacher Mrs Huntington after he penned a short story, at Bedford Road Primary School; and thanks to her encouragement heís been writing ever since. Mark performed poetry at Left Bank Bistro with musicians, and his 1st play was:- 'Are You Awake for Liverpool Lunchtime Theatre above Chaucerís Tavern,' all while still a care worker for Mencap in North Wales. He trained to be a teacher, juggling his writing and teaching for 8 years before going professional. He won a young playwrightís competition for BBC Radio 4 in 1990, which was Sony nominated, and has since written more than 20 plays for them including:- 'Just A Girl (series 1 to 5),' 'The Liberty of Norton Folgate with Madness,' and 'Goose Breath' recorded on location in Liverpool. nHe has also written for:- 'EastEnders,' 'This Life (Writers Guild series award),' 'Band Of Gold,' and 'The Liverpool Nativity Live' on BBC3 (Czech TV Prize). Theatre credits include:- Ericís at the Everyman; the UK version of:- 'Taboo with Boy George' (Olivier and Whatís On Stage awards), and 'Special Measures' at Liverpoolís Royal Court.  2Gorgeous4U writer Mark Davies Markham said:- "The play had a great reception when it opened the Liverpool Theatre Festival last summer, so Iím really pleased itís heading back to the stage; this time at the brilliant Royal Court where I previously premiered my Ofsted play Special Measures. Thereís nothing quite like the reaction of a Liverpool crowd, and Iím sure audiences at the Royal Court Studio are going to love Lynneís fantastic performance just as much as festivalgoers did when she brought Clare to life at St Lukeís Bombed Out Church."

Lynne Fitzgerald plays no fewer than 10 different roles in the show which is being presented by Bill Elms Productions. Lynne Fitzgerald is an Actor, Director, Comedian and Playwright. Helenís literary achievements were celebrated in 2020 when an iconic Blue Plaque was unveiled at the late authorís family home in Hoylake, a place which featured heavily in her work.

Playwright and producer Rob Fennah explained:- "Twopence To Cross The Mersey is such a poignant true story and, although based in the 1930s, it tackles many scenarios people can still relate to today. Itís the main reason why it has remained so popular across the UK and around the world. Now we have our cast in place we can actually start believing we are taking the production on its 1st major tour after such a challenging few years for live theatre and entertainment. Helen Forrester was an incredible woman, and we are proud to continue to be custodians of her fascinating stories. Some years ago Helen and I grew to be good friends, and we shared many letters and lengthy telephone conversations about her life story. There were some real gems in amongst those conversations which I have now written into this new adaptation; fascinating memories of the late author that didnít find their way into her books."

Director Gareth Tudor Price added:- "Weíd not long opened By The Waters Of Liverpool; sister show to 2pence; when the Pandemic brought everything to a standstill. But I now have the privilege to direct the first instalment which sets the scene for Helenís life. The cast is strong, and a few already have special links with Helenís work, so anticipation is high. Weíre now counting down the months until we all gather in the rehearsal room and once again bring Helenís work to life on stage."

This yearís nationwide tour of:- '2pence To Cross The Mersey' will be followed by a tour of:- 'By The Waters Of Liverpool' in Spring 2023.  For more information and ticket information, please visit:- TwoPenceToCrossTheMersey.Com.
