Bill Esterson MP raises "serious concerns" over Melling planning application

BILL Esterson MP has appealed to Sefton Council to consider the "serious concerns" that residents have regarding plans to build almost 150 new homes on former farmland. Mr Esterson, MP for Sefton Central, said he has received several representations from residents in Melling regarding the bid to build 147 homes at Wadacre Farm on Chapel Lane Melling.

Mr Esterson wrote to Sefton Council Chief Executive Dwayne Johnson to relay the residents. "Over the last few years, a number of large housing developments have been approved despite local objections, and despite directives from Central Government to protect green space. Residents tell me they are struggling to access healthcare services in the village and that the only GP surgery is operating on a part time basis. With regard to the proposed development, there are a number of concerns residents have raised. These are access to the site as many believe Chapel Lane is not a suitable access road. Their concerns include that the site is subject to flooding, and there are many protected wildlife species including bats, foxes, water voles, badgers and otters. Residents have raised issues regarding the increased traffic that would result from the development, and the increased sewage as residents fear the sewers already struggle to cope. They fear an increased risk of flooding and are concerned by the possible disruption that will be caused by the construction traffic. They fear that the probable mix of pedestrians, the narrow lane and large construction vehicles presents a risk to life and property."

Mr Esterson asked Mr Johnson to outline how the planning department would liaise with partners such as:- United Utilities, the Lead Local Flood Authority, the Highways Authority and the developer to address the concerns. Mr Esterson added:- "It is imperative that these serious concerns are addressed if permission is to be granted."

Southport hotel to host 5 course Italian tasting menu by Masterchef finalist

DO you love Italian food? People can enjoy a special 5 course Italian tasting menu, courtesy of Masterchef finalist Jay Tinker, at the Anelli Hotel and Amici Bar, in Southport, on Friday, 29 July 2022.

Diners can tuck into:-

  Minestrone served with Bruschetta.

Mozzarella Arancini served on a bed of Garlic Mushrooms.

Sea Bass with Fennel and Red Pepper Salad.

Tagliatelle Pesto with Lemon Chicken and Oven Roasted Tomato.

  Mascarpone Mousse Cake with Strawberries.

Seats are limited with people invited to book by calling the Anelli Hotel and Amici Bar.

Jay Tinker made a huge impression on Masterchef judges John Torode and Gregg Wallace when he made it through to the last 4 of the competition in 2012, with some huge compliments along the way. .

John Torode said:- "Jay has the most incredible magic touch with a piece of fish. It's an amazing thing, it's like he just passes his hand over it and honestly, it's wonderful. I don't know how he does it, but he's brilliant."

This month's themed dinner night follows the success of the Caribbean night held in June 2022.

The Anelli family are excited to see an Italian theme this time!

Fabrizio Anelli said:- "Join us for a taste of Italia! A very special taster menu has been created by Jay Tinker that we are of course very much looking forward to! Our monthly themed nights are building up a real following. People love the atmosphere, and of course the great food! 5 top quality courses cooked by Masterchef finalist Jay Tinker is excellent value. It is a very sociable way to enjoy a meal out. By the end of the meal, everyone is socialising with another. In a normal restaurant, you can be in and out within an hour. This is a more relaxed way to enjoy an evening out. People love to savour the quality of the food, with Jay Tinker a superb chef."

The last event was a big success, with Fabrizio saying lots of people from that night have already booked onto the next 1.

He said:- "Our Caribbean night went really well. Everyone was really happy. Quite a few people rebooked straight away for our Italian night, they are looking forward to coming back again. We have hosted a few themed nights now with Jay Tinker. We organised some over Christmas, and now we've held Spanish and Caribbean nights, they're growing in popularity. We are particularly looking forward to this 1, being Italian themed, with us being an Italian family! The menu speaks for itself, it looks delicious. The Italian themed menu will be presented on Friday, 29 July 2022. Book ASAP to avoid disappointment! Once the tickets are gone, they're gone."
