Southport Youth Pledge launches to empower and support local young people

THE Southport Learning Trust, Southport Education Group, and Southport BID is proud to announce the official launch of the Southport Youth Pledge initiative. The unveiling took place at the:- Your Southport Stars Award Ceremony, was held at The Grand, on:- Tuesday, 16 April 2024.



Southport Youth Pledge focuses on increasing youth return by collaborating with employer partners and showcasing the unique employment opportunities and vibrant community spirit Southport has to offer. Through innovative educational programmes and partnerships with local businesses, Southport Youth Pledge strives to empower young people with the competencies to succeed in their chosen career paths.



"We are thrilled to launch Southport Youth Pledge and take this important step to acknowledge the excellent work of our businesses, organisations across Southport.
We are very fortunate to have exceptional businesses and organisations in Southport that proactively work with our schools and colleges. Working with Southport BID and Southport Education Group will provide a structured opportunity to create ambitious innovators, visionary thinkers and extraordinary pioneers throughout our Town." said Ian Parry, Director of Education at Southport Learning Trust.



Michelle Brabner, Principal and Chief Executive of Southport Education Group said:- "We can now come together, with a cohesive approach, to make it easier for employers to support the work of our education providers in the Region. We are very fortunate in Southport to have some amazing employers who already demonstrate tremendous commitment to our young people. We were honoured to award Techedia, Lattimer and Fletchers Solicitors with The Employer Accreditation Award at the Your Southport Stars Awards on Tuesday evening."



Southport Youth Pledge, along with stakeholders and the wider community are committed to nurturing the generation of confident, capable and engaged young people, with the aim of inspiring the next generation of our future workforce, driving economic excellence for Southport.

Hugh Baird College Alumni Excel in Logistics and Business through Innovative Scholarship Programmes

HUGH Baird College is proud to spotlight the journeys of 2 alumni, Zoe Melling and Paul Osaigbovo. After participating in the College's Scholarship Programmes, their careers in the logistics and business sectors have soared.

Zoe Melling: from Business Student to Procurement Coordinator at Peel Ports

Zoe's journey through Hugh Baird College's business courses and engagement on the College's Peel Ports Scholarship Programme has culminated in a successful career as a Procurement Coordinator at Peel Ports. In her role, Zoe oversees the acquisition of essential supplies for the site, from crane and plant parts to personal protective equipment and manages projects across significant ports, including Liverpool, Heysham, and the Manchester Ship Canal.

Reflecting on her experience, Zoe shared:- "The Scholarship Programme opened the door to my dream job at Peel Ports. With guidance from my scholarship mentor at Peel Ports, I navigated my career path to focus on purchasing, a field I'm deeply passionate about. Hugh Baird College was instrumental in my journey, giving me the confidence to excel in my role and beyond."

Paul Osaigbovo: Award-Winning Student to International Business Degree

Paul's story is equally inspiring. He studied as a business student at Hugh Baird College, where he won a student award for:- 'Excellence in Employability Skills,' progressing onto a Degree in International Business, at:- Manchester Metropolitan University. His engagement in the Scholarship Programme with Denholm Logistics Group honed his employability skills and facilitated a transition to higher education.

Paul advises current and future students:- "The Scholarship Programme offered valuable business connections and work experience opportunities. Asking questions and being curious about your career path is essential. This curiosity led me to pursue a degree in International Business."

Hugh Baird College offers logistics courses designed to prepare students for a successful career in the logistics sector. The courses promote real world experience through work

placements, scholarship programmes, guest speakers and employer-led projects with industry leaders like Peel Ports and Denholm Logistics.

These courses provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the logistics field, including:- supply chain management, procurement and transport, equipping them with the skills needed for the rapidly expanding logistics industry in the Liverpool City Region and beyond.

Hugh Baird College's Scholarship Programmes offer students industry placements for practical experience, personalised support through 1 to 1 mentorship, a guaranteed interview upon programme completion and a valuable addition to CVs and UCAS applications.
