Southport Conservatives Condemn Labour�s EU Deal as a Betrayal of Brexit and British Sovereignty

MIKE Prendergast, Spokesperson for Southport Conservatives, has strongly criticised the Labour Government�s deal with the EU, calling it:- �a betrayal of Brexit and a sellout of British sovereignty.�

The deal includes extended EU access to British fishing waters until 2038, alignment of UK food safety standards with the EU, and the merging of emissions trading schemes.

�This deal is nothing short of a capitulation, each time Labour negotiate, Britain loses. Labour has handed over 12 more years of access to our fishing waters to the EU in exchange for vague promises on trade, bureaucracy and passport e-gates, which many EU destinations allow UK passport holders to use anyway. For a few minutes off a passport queue we�ve given away 12 years of fishing rights. Where is the ambition for our country, this was a chance to get more for Britain and we�ve ended up with less.� said Prendergast.

Prendergast expressed concern over the implications of these concessions:- �Labour is aligning us with EU rules without any say in their creation, effectively making the UK a rule taker. Something that Keir Starmer promised he would not make the UK. This undermines the very sovereignty that 17.4 million people voted for in 2016.�

He also criticised the proposed youth mobility scheme, warning it could reintroduce aspects of free movement:- �Labour�s plan to allow young Europeans to live and work in Britain under the guise of a youth mobility scheme is a backdoor to free movement. This move disregards the clear message from the British people during the Brexit referendum.�

Prendergast further highlighted concerns over the financial implications of the deal:- �We will now be paying money to the EU despite not being involved in decisions. Labour�s willingness to integrate our emissions trading with the EU�s system will also make it much more likely that energy bills will go up due to higher carbon pricing within the EU. These are potentially massive costs for households. This deal is a betrayal of the British people�s decision to leave the EU. It prioritises appeasing Brussels over protecting British interests. It�s a bad deal for the UK and gives the EU a huge amount for not much in return. It�s still abundantly clear that Keir Starmer can�t be trusted on Brexit and Conservatives will reverse this deal at the 1st opportunity.�

Children's Author David Walliams Brings Stories and Smiles to Churchtown Primary

STUDENTS at Churchtown Primary School, part of Endeavour Learning Trust, were treated to an unforgettable experience on Monday when best-selling author David Walliams paid a visit, sharing stories and laughter with the pupils.

Walliams spent the morning with the children, bringing his characters to life with his signature humour. For students in Years 3 to 6, he shared insights into his creative process, revealing how he gets his ideas for his books. He also treated them to short readings from his earlier works and an exclusive sneak peek of his latest book, The World's Worst Superheroes, which will be published later this week.

For younger pupils in Reception to Year 2, Walliams hosted a magical story time session, reading from:- 'The World's Worst Children,' leaving his young audience spellbound.

He and his publishers, HarperCollins Children's Books, donated books to each child in the School and also gave a selection of books to the School's new library, which will open this autumn as part of the Churchtown Playground project, dedicated to the memory of former pupils Alice and Bebe.

Reflecting on his visit, Walliams said:- "I have wanted to come to the School for some time to try and spread some happiness and help them on their mission to having a brand new library."

Jinnie Payne, headteacher of Churchtown Primary School, said:- "Our children were absolutely mesmerised; seeing their favourite stories come to life and meeting the author behind them was an unforgettable experience. HarperCollins and David's generosity in donating books to our children and new library means his stories will continue to inspire future readers."

David Clayton, CEO of Endeavour Learning Trust, added:- "Today has been a celebration of creativity and joy. David's visit reminded our students that with imagination, anything is possible. The smiles, laughter, and magic of stories will stay with them long after the visit, inspiring them to dream big and believe in themselves."

The new library, set to open later this year, will be a space where students can explore the world through books, feeding their imagination and a love for reading.
