Botanic Gardens 150th Anniversary Fun Day

THE Botanic Gardens Community Association held the:- 'Botanic Gardens 150th Anniversary' on:- Sunday, 15 June 2025, which was also Fathers Day. The weather started sunny, but clouds came in for the afternoon, but it remained dry and warm.  This event had lots of things to do and see, from:- fairground rides, live music, craft stalls, donkey rides, food and drink, giant bubbles, and more. The Live entertainment included several performances by the Golborne Brass Band, who really did an amazing job. Nearly everyone who attended fully enjoyed the atmosphere and activities on offer. It is worth adding that the 150th of Southport's Botanic Gardens is sponsored by the Garden's:- 'The Settle Inn.'

For those of you who have not been to the Botanic Gardens, it was 1st opened in 1874, and it became a heavily wooded botanical garden, with a fernery, aviary, gift shop and a cafe. Today the area is kept looking good thanks to Sefton Council and the Botanic Gardens Community Association. You can still visit the aviary, fernery and cafe, plus you can also take a walk around the lake and look at the amazing flower displays. if you are keen to learn more about the Park's history please visit the Botanic Gardens Community Association's website:- BotanicGardensCA.Org.UK,

This is not the only event that is taking place this year, marking the Park's 150th Anniversary. Other events include the following:- 'Bands In The Park' events:-

  • 22 June 2025 - Marshside Brass Band.

  • 29 June 2025 - Allerton Brass.

  • 13 July 2025 - Banks Brass Band.

  • 20 July 2025 - Parr St Helen Brass Band.

  • 27 July 2025 - Clock Face Miners Heritage Brass Band.

  • 3 August 2025 -  Brindle Brass Band.

  • 10 August 2025 - Southport Salvation Army Band.

  • 17 August 2025 -  Blakeley Brass Band.

  • 24 August 2025 - Hesketh Bank Silver Band.

We must not forget that to keep the park open for future generation it still requires funding to keep going. As part of the 150th Anniversary, the Botanic Gardens Community Association has also launched a Go Fund Me appeal to raise money that will be spent on improving and conserving the Botanic Gardens as part of an ambitious and long term improvement and conservation scheme for the park. The main goal of the Appeal is to celebrate and conserve the Park’s heritage, enhance inclusion, access, and participation for park users, and support nature recovery and the environment. the money raised will be match funded by Sefton Council.
