Liverpool born Author Lifts Lid on the Absurdities of Corporate Life in Witty New Memoir

LIVERPOOL born Tony Cooke, who grew up on the City's iconic Scotland Road, has released his debut book Waggish Chronicles of a Maverick in a Corporate World; a bold and hilariously honest memoir lifting the lid on life inside one of the world's biggest companies.

Forget what you think you know about HR. Tony, a former Vice President of Human Resources for a global sports brand, throws out the policy manuals and corporate jargon to share two decades' worth of lessons, mishaps and laugh-out-loud moments from boardrooms across Europe.

Told with razor-sharp wit and authentic Scouse humour, Waggish Chronicles isn't just for HR professionals; It's for anyone who's ever wondered what really goes on behind the closed doors of corporate HQs. From culture clashes and crisis management to dealing with head office politics, Tony's memoir brings a refreshing, human take to the often-overlooked world of people management.

“Where there's people, there's politics... But there's also characters, chaos, comedy; and plenty of learning if you're willing to laugh at yourself."
says Tony.

After cutting his teeth in the retail and manufacturing sectors, Tony went on to lead HR functions across Sweden, France, Belgium, Spain and beyond. Throughout it all, he championed diversity, inclusion and women in business; developing initiatives that went on to influence global company policies.

Yet it's his roots in Liverpool that continue to shape his down-to-earth leadership style and storytelling approach... Tony explains:- "I wanted to write something that takes the unnecessary seriousness out of business books. There's no preaching here; just real stories about real people, told with warmth and humour."

Published this month by Publishing Push, Waggish Chronicles of a Maverick in a Corporate World is available now on Amazon in paperback (£15.99) and Kindle formats.

Local Southport campaigner travel to Parliament as part of mass lobby to call for action on the climate and debt crisis to help world's poorest countries

ADRIAN Cannell from Southport joined thousands of people from across the UK, at the Act Now Change Forever lobby to call on their MPs to take action on climate, debt and nature.

Organised by The Climate Coalition, a network of over 120 leading UK organisations representing more than 22 million people, the public mobilisation comes amid growing concern about a worsening climate crisis.

As part of Jubilee year, campaigners from CAFOD and other organisations are urging MPs to lead bold global reforms to tackle unjust debt and unlock funds to fight the climate crisis in vulnerable countries. Jubilee years have been moments marked by the cancellation of debts since Biblical times.

Adrian Cannell, a retired IT and Maths Teacher, explained why it was important to go to Parliament to meet Patrick Hurley, MP for Southport:- "I joined the mass lobby to speak with my MP, Patrick Hurley, about the link between:- debt and the climate crisis. 93% of climate-vulnerable countries also face debt crisis, forcing them to pay debts over climate resilience. This must change. In my parish, 125 people have signed the Jubilee petition, and I also brought letters from children at the School where I am a governor calling for debt cancellation and a fairer world. Patrick Hurley was supportive and agreed to write to Economic Secretary Emma Reynolds. MPs need to hear from constituents—people can still sign the petition and contact their MP."

Speakers at the event included:- Caroline Lucas, former leader of the Green Party and Father Charles Chilufya, who spoke about the devastating impact of the climate and debt crisis on many African communities.

Father Charles said:- "I'm heartened to see so many in the UK uniting in Westminster, to meet their MPs and stand in solidarity with our brothers and sisters in the Global South to demand action now. In this Jubilee Year, let's match words with action, turning faith into justice and lasting change for our common home."

Helen Moseley; or Andrea Speranza, CAFOD's Campaign Manager:- "It's been fantastic to see so many people travel to Parliament to have their voices heard. The UK must lead bold global reforms to cancel unjust debt and unlock funds to fight a crisis these countries did least to cause. This is about justice and urgent action."

CAFOD is encouraging anyone concerned about the global debt crisis to call for debt justice this Jubilee Year by contacting their MP and signing this petition.
