Chinese New Year 4724 - Southport 2026

EACH year Chinese communities across the United Kingdom celebrate Lunar New Year, also known as the:- 'Spring Festival,' or 'Chinese New Year.' Chinese New Year has not only become a significant cultural, religious and commercial celebration for the Chinese but also for many other communities across the world. With Liverpool being the home to the oldest Chinese community in Europe, it is no surprise it has also become a major part in or areas event calendar as well. This year the festivities on Merseyside started in Southport, on:- 13 February 2026. Both the Empire Restaurant, on:- Nevill Street, along with the New China City, on:- King Street, put on their annual celebrations with both a Drangon Dance, a Lion Dance, and Martial Arts Displays. The events interestingly tied in nicely with both Valentine's Day and the set up test of Southport's brand new event:- 'LightPort' on the:- 13 February 2026. This is our coverage of the events in Southport. We will also be covering Liverpool's celebrations within Chinatown, on:- Sunday, 22 February 2026.

Assistant Manager Henry Seow at the Empire Restaurant told us that:- "We always looking forward to welcoming people to our Chinese New Year celebrations. Like normal, our event was a sell out, but we still wanted to include more people who weren't dining with us, as we do every year, so we also put on a free show outside, on:- Nevill Street. Kids especially love watching both the Lion Dancing and the Kung Fu, it's something very different. It is a real celebration of our culture! The Restaurant has put on events for many years, before we took over, but this event its even more special for us 2026 marks our 10th Anniversary of taking over the running the restaurant, so it was a great way to start our year of celebrations. If you are unaware, before we ran this restaurant, we ran:- 'The Jasmine Tree' that was located on:- Union Street. I think its worth adding that our Head Chef has over 30 years' experience of cooking in restaurants both here in the UK, as well as in:- Malaysia and Thailand and is an expert in cooking Chinese, Malaysian and Thai food. He is currently cooking up something special for our 10th Anniversary, so please keep an eye on our menu this year!"

When asked about the fact the event tied in with the press night for Southport's 1st major event of 2026, Henry commented:- "We are all really looking forward to 2026 in Southport! What an exciting year it's going to be! There are so many great events planned, like Lightport, so we'll be right next to everything happening on Lord Street this year! Lightport will be spectacular event from what we can see of it tonight, ad will be an amazing start for Southport this year. We are really looking forward to all the other events, like:- Cristal Palace, The Big Top Festival, and the Town's regular events like the:- Southport Flower Show, Southport Air Show and others. Plus this year we have yet again:- The Open Golf Championship being held in Southport, this July, that will attract visitors from all over the world. When they come, they'll be impressed with the quality of the food scene in Southport, and the amount of choice the Town offers! We offer traditional and authentic Chinese cuisine along with Malaysian and Thai cuisine, but elsewhere you can eat amazing:- English, Scottish, Korean, Vietnamese, Italian, French, Turkish, and Mexican. Plus there are lots of huge improvements happening all around us this year. It's very exciting to see the restoration starting at Southport Pier, that's such an iconic local landmark, and building work beginning starting at the new Marine Lake Events Centre, and at the Town Hall Gardens. The Year Of The Horse is signalling a very positive year ahead for Southport and we're delighted to be right in the centre of all the amazing things happening around us. Please come to Southport and sample what our Town has to offer..."

Both the Owner and Manager Lily Seow and Henry Seow added that would like to say a:- "special thanks to Southport BID and Southport Reporter for helping us to put on its display this year."

Did you know that this year is the:- 'Year of the Fire Horse' and the New Chinese New Year:- '4724' starts on:- 17 February 2026? The Horse is the 7th sign within the 12 Chinese Zodiac signs. This year the element is:- Fire. The pairing of the element and the sign only occurs once every 60 years! It is worth adding that this new Chinese New Year is viewed as a year of optimism and opportunity, with strong public and investor confidence!
