Hairdressers who married in 2026 celebrate 5th Anniversary of Southport Salon

FENNEEKAY Hair and Beauty in Southport is celebrating its fifth Birthday, with an invitation for people to call in.  The Salon, at:- 17 Lord Street - near the junction with Lord Street West - is hosting a special Birthday celebration from:- 2pm onwards on:- Saturday, 11 April 2026.  Visitors can enjoy live music by local singer Jenny Wren plus hot and cold drinks including:- Prosecco, Nosecco, wine, beer and more. FenneeKay Hair and Beauty  is run by husband and wife:- Chris and Sarah Hesketh, who tied the knot in 2026 after 8 years together.

Chris and Sarah Hesketh said:- "We are really excited to be celebrating our 5th Birthday! We'd love to welcome all our clients, both past and present, and anyone else who'd like to call in and join us on the day. Five years is a great milestone for us to reach. We're really pleased to have Jenny Wren singing with us; she sang at our wedding in 2026, she was brilliant! We got married at St Philip's Church and then had our wedding reception at West Lancs Yacht Club in Southport. It was really hot weather! We had such a brilliant day. There were so many people there, including:- lots of our clients. Sarah had worked in her previous shop for 16 years, while I was a bit of a hairdressing nomad. We were both ready to open a new salon and when we saw the former Flutterby's salon being advertised, we thought it was the perfect opportunity for us. It was during the Covid lockdown when we launched the business. It was me, Sarah and Sarah's Mum, Sue, who did all the decorating. There were some nerves about opening, but when you're good at what you do, you charge reasonable prices and you have great customers, then it will work. Five years on, and things are going very well, we are growing. We are both colour technicians; I used to go all over the UK with Lisap LK. We'd describe FenneeKay Hair and Beauty as somewhere that's very relaxed, welcoming, and affordable. Some other places out there charge double the prices we do. We are very anxiety friendly, there's no need for anyone who comes in to feel nervous."

This is an exciting year for Southport. The 154 Open Golf Championship is coming to Royal Birkdale Golf Club this summer. There are 4 major new events planned, all centred on Lord Street, which began with Lightport in February and continue with Cristal Palace in April, the Big Top Festival in May and Books Alice in October 2026.

Chris and Sarah said:- "Lightport was brilliant! What an exciting new event. And there's more to come. All the things they are organising now are really good for Southport. It's good to see. We need to see more people coming to the Town, and more new investment. In recent years there has been so much happening in the Northern Quarter, with the likes of:- The Grand, The Bold and the Lord Street Hotel. We need more at this end of Lord Street! It's going to be exciting seeing building work starting at The Garrick in May, then hopefully the new Wetherspoon Hotel will start soon too. Everything takes time. We're busy anyway, we just love to see Southport doing well. We're so proud that FenneeKay Hair and Beauty is celebrating our fifth Birthday. We'd like to say a huge thank you to all our customers from over these 5 years. Without them, this success wouldn't happen."

Public consultation to launch on Liverpool's Paddington South master plan

LIVERPOOL City Council, in partnership with the University of Liverpool, will begin a major public consultation on:- Paddington South, 1 of the City's most significant future innovation and public realm developments.

Councillor Nick Small, Liverpool City Council Cabinet Member for Growth and Economy
said:- "Paddington South is a once in a generation opportunity to transform a key part of the City's Knowledge Quarter, creating jobs, supporting innovation and delivering exceptional public spaces. These are ambitious plans which will help cement Liverpool's Knowledge Quarter, as 1 of the leading areas of innovation within Europe. We encourage everyone to take part in the consultation and help shape the master plan before plans progress further."

The project will accelerate Liverpool's life science and innovation sectors, centred around a vibrant new neighbourhood with better connectivity and retaining and improving the green space for local community use.

The master plan outlines a series of proposed development plots, including:- R&D,  laboratories and workshop space.

Professor Richard Black, Provost and Deputy Vice Chancellor at the University of Liverpool,
explains:- "Paddington South is a really exciting opportunity to transform a former brownfield site into a vibrant research and innovation cluster, creating jobs and boosting the Regional economy. At the heart of these plans is a new:- £111 million University of Liverpool facility for chemical sciences, which will house a new AI Materials Hub for Innovation (AIM-HI). AIM-HI will position the Liverpool City Region and the UK as a global leader in AI-driven materials research, development, and innovation, and will play an important part in the Government's Industrial Strategy and the City Region Combined Authority's Growth Plan."

As part of this vision, the aim is to:-

  • Deliver world leading research and development facilities in science innovation.

  • Create thousands of jobs, supporting Liverpool's long term growth ambitions.

  • Provide multi functional green spaces that bring all community members together.

  • Improve biodiversity by 10%, contributing to the City's wider green objectives.

  • Integrate safe and accessible active travel routes within a growing cycle network.

  • Re-establish Crown Street as a key connection into and through the area.

The master plan aims to:- retain and enhance green space, establish stronger pedestrian and cycling links, and deliver new high quality buildings alongside a redesigned, greener Grove Street corridor.

To support the consultation, is now running until:- Sunday, 19 April 2026. Members of the public can visit:- PaddingtonVillageSouth.Co.UK for more information about the project, which includes:- accessible information, visuals, and the opportunity to comment. Public events will also be announced to support the consultation process.
