Lancashire Students Step into History with Groundbreaking Holocaust Education VR Session

60 Lancashire students had a profoundly moving experience as they participated in a special session delivered by the Holocaust Educational Trust (HET).

Year 9 students from Wellfield Academy, part of the Endeavour Learning Trust, welcomed HET into School.

Using virtual reality (VR) technology through HET's innovative Testimony 360 programme, students were transported to significant historical sites of the Holocaust, including:- Stutthof concentration camp.

Wearing VR headsets, they walked in the footsteps of survivors, following powerful personal stories from deportation to the camps, liberation, and life after 1945, all from the classroom.

The session also featured an interactive, pre-recorded testimony from Holocaust survivor Manfred Goldberg MBE, who sadly passed away in 2026.

Students had the unique opportunity to:- "speak" with Manfred by asking questions and receiving answers drawn from his recorded experiences, allowing them to hear directly from someone who endured the horrors of the Holocaust firsthand. This technology helps preserve and share survivors' legacies for future generations.

The Testimony 360 programme combines immersive VR explorations of historical sites with interactive survivor testimonies, revolutionising how young people learn about the Holocaust, and ensuring its lessons remain vivid.

Jamie Lewis, Headteacher at Wellfield Academy
, said:- "We are incredibly proud of how our Year 9 students engaged with this powerful and thought-provoking session. Testimony 360 brought history to life in a whole new way, allowing our young people to connect with the real human stories behind the Holocaust. It was a privilege to hear from Manfred Goldberg through this innovative technology, and it reinforces our commitment to educating students about tolerance, remembrance, and the importance of standing against prejudice."
