119 Ambulances delivered to the North West as part of record national rollout

A record number of new and replacement Ambulances have been delivered to NHS Trusts across England over the past year, boosting frontline capacity and helping paramedics respond to patients faster.

The North West received:- 119 new or replacement Double Crewed Ambulances (DCAs) as part of the programme.

New data shows that a total of:- 1,141 new or replacement Double Crewed Ambulances (DCAs) were delivered to NHS Ambulance Trusts between:- April 2025 and March 2026.

Funded through a combination of national investment and local funding, this marks the highest number of replacement Ambulances delivered in a single year since records began.

The majority of the:- 1,141 vehicles replace older Ambulances, ensuring patients and staff benefit from a modern, reliable fleet. A smaller proportion represents additional fleet capacity, further supporting services under pressure.

Health Minister, Zubir Ahmed
said:- "The 119 new Ambulances delivered to the North West are part of our mission to modernise the NHS fleet, ensuring our hardworking paramedics are equipped with all the tools they need to do their jobs safely and effectively, while ensuring patients receive the highest possible standard of care. Replacing older vehicles with state of the art Ambulances means we are not only improving reliability and reducing downtime, but crucially helping more crews stay on the road and respond to emergencies. These vehicles are equipped with the technology to better protect staff and support faster, more effective treatment. This is a vital step in ensuring the NHS can continue to deliver world-class care for patients when they need it most."

Dr Fenella Wrigley, National Medical Adviser, Ambulance, NHSE
said:- "New and replacement Ambulances are crucial in providing care for patients, whether taking care to the patient home or conveying a patient to an emergency department. Reliable, modern, well-equipped Ambulances allow emergency teams can stay out on the road and do what they do best, responding to patients quickly and ensuring they get the care they need."

The new Double Crewed Ambulances are equipped with the modern technology and enhanced safety features, helping protect patients and staff while enabling paramedics to deliver high quality pre-Hospital care.

Modern Ambulances are more reliable and less likely to require repairs, reducing the amount of time vehicles spend off the road.

This means more Ambulances are available to respond to:- 999 calls, helping cut waiting times and improve patient outcomes.

The rollout forms part of wider action to improve urgent and emergency care services.

Anna Parry, Managing Director of the Association of Ambulance Chief Executives (AACE)
said:- "Delivering more than 1,100 new and replacement Ambulances in a single year is a great achievement by NHS Ambulance
services in collaboration with:- DHSC and NHSE, and a genuine boost for patients and our people. Replacing older vehicles with modern, better equipped Ambulances means greater reliability, fewer breakdowns and more time on the road where they are needed most. For our crews, these vehicles make a tangible difference. The enhanced safety features and improved working environment support paramedics and other clinicians to deliver high quality care under intense pressure, and they help our people feel safer and better supported on shift. This level of investment is essential as Ambulance services continue to face sustained demand. A modern, resilient fleet is fundamental to improving response times and ensuring patients receive timely, safe care wherever they are when it is needed. We welcome this record year of delivery and look forward to continued progress in strengthening Ambulance services across the country."

This winter, the NHS has seen a significant improvement in performance despite record demand, with Category 2 response times, including:- for strokes and heart attacks quicker than they have been for half a decade.

Waiting times at their lowest in A&E for almost half a decade, thanks to the hard work of NHS staff, better planning and modernisation.

Stalled housing and employment sites to be unlocked with new:- £165 million road fund

THOUSANDS of new homes and jobs are set to be unlocked as the Government launches a new:- £165 million fund to remove the barriers holding back housing and key growth developments across England.

The new Growth and Housing Accelerator Fund will target sites where progress has stalled due to funding constraints, delivering the transport improvements and links needed to get building started.

Launching in the coming weeks, it supports the Government's plan to raise living standards and deliver 1.5 million new homes across England this Parliament.

The new fund forms part of Road Investment Strategy 3 (RIS3), the Government's:- £27 billion for England's Motorways and major A-roads from:- 2026 to 2031.

Announced last week, it is designed not just to maintain and renew the existing network, but to ensure England's roads actively support economic growth, removing the infrastructure barriers that have held back new homes, jobs and investment.

The new Growth and Housing Accelerator Fund will bridge the funding gap for critical transport works to unblock and accelerate the delivery of housing and employment sites.

It will focus on locations on or near to motorways and A-roads across England, ensuring communities can benefit from new homes and the jobs and opportunities that come with them.

Secretary of State Heidi Alexander
said:- "Too many housing and employment opportunities have stalled for years, held back by the infrastructure that wasn't there to support them. This fund will pave the way for developments that have sat idle for too long, funding the transport links that stalled sites need to get moving and generating new jobs and opportunities for communities that deserve them. It is a deliberate choice, and a signal that this Government is serious about removing the barriers to growth."

Housing Secretary Steve Reed
said:- "For many people, the dream of a decent home, close to work, and with good connections to their community, has been out of reach. This Government is firing on all cylinders to get spades in the ground faster so we can build new homes, bolster our transport links and create jobs in the places most in need. This is exactly the kind of targeted, practical action that will help us reach 1.5 million new homes and create thriving communities where people can put down roots."

National Highways will invite local authorities in the coming weeks to register developments for consideration and publish a rolling programme of funded schemes from the end of 2026/27.

The result will be new homes built, new employment sites and jobs created, and communities that have waited for development finally seeing it happen.

National Highways Executive Director Elliot Shaw
said:- "Reliable roads are crucial to housing developments. They shape where people want to live, where businesses want to invest, and where communities can thrive. This fund will help unlock the transport links needed for new homes and jobs and help the Government achieve its ambitions on economic growth."

At the heart of the Government's RIS3 plan is a record:- £8.4 billion for renewing and resurfacing over:- 9,000 kilometres of motorway and major A-road lanes, tackling the backlog of ageing roads and worn surfaces that have built up over decades.

Around
of structures on the network are now over 45 years old, and this unprecedented renewals investment will address critical bridges, viaducts and concrete road surfaces before they reach the end of their life.

The overall RIS3 investment is expected to support around 50,000 jobs across England over the 5 year road period.
