Merseyside PCC responds to publication of the Southport Inquiry Phase 1 report

THE Merseyside Police and Crime Commissioner has today responded to the release of findings of the Southport Inquiry Phase 1 report, published today following the inquiry conducted by Sir Adrian Fulford.

PCC Emily Spurrell
said:- "Today will be another incredibly hard day for the families at the heart of the Southport tragedy who have lived with unimaginable loss. They deserve answers, accountability, and assurance that lessons will be learned. This report marks a crucial moment in fully understanding what happened and why; not just in relation to 1 organisation but across the range of agencies involved - and sets out the changes that are needed to ensure that we never see a repeat of that devastating day. It is heartbreaking that there were so many missed opportunities to intervene. Each 1 was a moment where different decisions, stronger systems or better coordination could have changed the course of events and prevented this tragedy from unfolding. That is why it is vital that every organisation or agency involved engages fully with the findings, faces them openly, takes responsibility where failings are identified, and commits to meaningful action, so that future families are never left asking the same questions. I will consider the report in full and in detail, and through my scrutiny role, will oversee how Merseyside Police responds to the findings and recommendations where they apply to the organisation. The report also recognises the response on the day itself, and the courage shown by Merseyside Police officers and PCSOs who were 1st on the scene, running towards danger and responding in the most harrowing of circumstances. The learning and recommendations in Sir Adrian's report cannot stay on the page. They must be acted on in full and implemented nationally, with clear accountability and sustained oversight across all relevant agencies, to ensure that nothing like this can ever happen again."

Brand new Tikka Bros brings authentic Indian street food to Southport Market

THE brand new Tikka Bros is now open at Southport Market, bringing authentic Indian street food to diners. Owner Sabah Ghaus says he has been:- "overwhelmed" by the response from everyone who's visited so far, with Tikka Bros extremely busy over the School Easter holiday period. Sabah opened the 1st Tikka Bros in Wigan Town Centre, and thought Southport Market would be the perfect venue to open the second.

His ambition is to take his Tikka Bros venture around the UK. He said:- "We're so pleased to have opened Tikka Bros at Southport Market! The reaction from people who have been to eat with us has been mind blowing. We've enjoyed an overwhelming response. Our 1st week was so busy! We never expected to come in and serve so many people. We're enjoying it here. We opened our 1st Tikka Bros outlet in Wigan Town Centre, and it's been a huge success. I was excited to open a second 1, and came to look at Southport, and Southport Market - it's the perfect venue for us. This is such a lovely way to eat. You can come in as a group of frinds or family, share a table, come and try an array of different dishes and drinks, and enjoy some quality time together. We have installed our own tandoor oven in the kitchen which means we can make food fresh every day, whether it's our roti, naan breads, tikka chicken and more. Our food is authentic Indian street food. It's healthy, it's packed with flavour, and is made using fresh ingredients. I have spent the past 20 years working in the hospitality industry, and Tikka Bros is the culmination of all my experience and passion for cooking. We have had really positive feedback from our customers so far, but we will keep updating our menus and listening to what people want. Customer satisfaction is so important to us. Visitors have been so excited to come in and find us here; they love our food! I would love to grow our Tikka Bros brand and open more outlets across the UK. I'm very proud that we have opened our second 1 here in Southport and that it's had such a brilliant response. I love Southport. The people here have been so friendly, so kind and so welcoming. It's been great moving into Southport Market. It's full of local independent traders like ourselves, and they have all been so supportive, as has Jordan, the Southport Market Manager. There have been lots of events while we've been here, especially during the School Easter holidays, there's always something happening in Southport Market!"
