Marshall Motor Group's research finds 168,000 speeding offences have been issued between:- January 2023 and March 2026

ON Merseyside nearly 168,000 speeding offences were recorded on the areas:- 20mph and 30mph roads, between:- January 2023 and March 2026, according to new Freedom Of Information (FOI) data obtained by Marshall Motor Group, who are 1 of the UK's largest motor retailers.

The figures provided by Merseyside Police show that:- 167,905 offences were recorded across lower speed roads during the period, which includes drivers caught travelling at speeds of up to:- 95mph in a 30mph zone and 65mph in a 20mph zone.

Here's how recorded offences varied year on year:-

30mph roads...

  • 44,240 offences in 2023

  • 48,958 offences in 2024

  • 40,814 offences in 2025

8,839 offences between:- January and March 2026

20mph roads...

  • 89 offences in 2023

  • 7,329 offences in 2024

  • 13,152 offences in 2025

4,484 offences between:- January and March 2026

The locations with the highest number of recorded speeding offences in 30mph zones were:- Garston Way / Dock Road, plus Scotland Road.

Meanwhile, the locations with the highest number of recorded offences in 20mph zones were:- Mossley Hill Drive and Warren Road.

The data also revealed that more than:- 72,000 offences in 30mph zones resulted in drivers completing a speed awareness course, while more than:- 38,000 resulted in a fixed penalty and more than:- 20,000 were referred for Court proceedings.

In 20mph zones, 14,000 offences resulted in drivers completing a speed awareness course, 6,542 resulted in a fixed penalty and 2,150 were referred for court proceedings.

Ben Welham,
motoring expert at Marshall Motor Group, said:- "20mph and 30mph limits are typically found in more built up areas, where pedestrians, cyclists and other road users are more common. Even small increases in speed can significantly reduce reaction times and increase stopping distances, which is why lower speed limits are often used around residential areas, schools and busy urban roads. Speeds such as 95mph in a 30mph zone are an extreme example, but even smaller increases over the speed limit can put lives in danger, which is why it's so important to stay within the law."
