A Summer Festival is coming to:- Wesley Street. within Southport's Town Centre this June and everyone is invited!

Wesley Street - famous as:- 'The Village In The Town' for its collection of local independent shops and brightly coloured buildings; will host the event on:- Saturday, 20 June 2026.

All are welcome to call in any time between:- 11 am and 5 pm, for a special seaside themed party. It is free to attend.

Families can enjoy traditional seaside entertainment including Punch and Judy shows; children's entertainment; dancing by Babyballet; food and drink; live music; and more!

1 of the Wesley Street traders said:- "We used to host an annual Wesley Street Festival several years ago, with the last 1 taking place around 2014. It was so popular with families and so busy; lots of people have been asking us if it was coming back! This year all of the traders along Wesley Street, supported by other local businesses in the town, have come together to organise the Wesley Street Summer Festival. We have such a real community spirit on our street which brings everyone together. We wanted to make it a day of seaside nostalgia! We have a packed programme to attract families and people of all ages. There will be so much for people to enjoy throughout the day. We're looking forward to seeing children sitting down and watching Punch & Judy shows. We'll have lots of live music and dancing, with local groups including Babyballet, showcasing some Southport's talented performers. Starkidz will call in with some of their children's characters. We'll have children's entertainment, including some interactive shows and games."

The trader continued:- "ArtHouse on Eastbank Street will be bringing along some local artists, who will be doing some interactive painting so people can get involved. There will be face painting and hair braiding. We'll have ice cream and sweet treats, with Adventure Coast Southport bringing along candy floss. The seaside is famous for its fish and chips so we're delighted Harper's fish and chip restaurant nearby will have fish & chips for people to buy. The Sporting Jester will have a pop-up bar. MKM will provide us with artificial turf which we can install along part of the road. All the businesses along Wesley Street will be open too. We're going to have a very vibrant Summer Festival with lots happening that should cater for everyone! We'd love to see people come down and enjoy the day and explore everything that our 'Village In The Town' has to offer. We are all really looking forward to a great day! It will be lovely to see everyone enjoying themselves."

It is a busy day for Southport with the free Summer Solstice Party taking place outside The Grand, the Lord Street Hotel and Punch Tarmey's on Lord Street , while tickets are on sale for the Summer Solstice Southport festival at Victoria Park.

The packed amount of entertainment on offer during the Summer Solstice Weekend with the longest days of the year makes it an unmissable time to get out and explore Southport.

New Pink String & Ceiling Wax shop enjoys warm welcome from shoppers as it opens in Southport

A beautiful brand new shop has enjoyed a superb response from shoppers after it opened its doors in Southport's Town Centre. on:- Saturday, 6 June 2026.

Pink String and Ceiling Wax opened at:- 15 Union Street, offering fabulous and affordable, high quality accessories and gifts, inspiring customers to turn their living space into the perfect home.

The owners pride themselves on offering a large range of high quality products and gifts with a unique twist that can't necessarily be found on the high street.

Pink String and Ceiling Wax also has a range of unique Christmas gifts and decorations which will grow as the weeks go on.

Crowds of people turned up on opening day to wish the new owners well and to be the 1st inside to explore what's on offer.

Pink String and Ceiling Wax, which shares its name with a 1950s movie, also boasts a room to the rear of the shop which will soon be hosting a series of workshops for both adults and young people; keep an eye on their website and social media pages for details of forthcoming events.

Their range online, with some of this in-store, includes:- home; paints and wallpapers; clocks, mirrors and wall art; children's interiors; soft furnishings; lighting and lamps; candle and fragrance; and their famous Christmas Shop.

They are supporting a range of local stockists including:- The Outrageous Peacock, who were among traders at the Southport Artisan Market nearby while the shop was opening.

The business also has a strong community ethos, with a particular focus on supporting young people with opportunities.

Pink String & Ceiling Wax Helen Chadwick said:- "What a fabulous opening day we've had at Pink String & Sealing Wax! We would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who popped in to see us on Saturday. The support, kind words, purchases, and encouragement have meant absolutely everything to us. Seeing so many familiar faces and meeting new customers has made our 1st day so special. Opening our doors has been a dream come true, and the warm welcome we've received from the community has been overwhelming. We are truly grateful to each and every 1 of you for supporting our little shop. Thank you for being part of our journey - we can't wait to welcome you back soon!"

Pink String & Ceiling Wax is a great example of a business which grew its success online before expanding onto the high street.

Helen said:- "We started Pink String & Ceiling Wax online 18 months ago, and it has been very popular. We initially hoped to open a shop on Lord Street and we looked at a number of units. When this unit on Union Street became available, it was a fantastic opportunity for us. It's close to Lord Street, it's in the Northern Quarter where there's lots going on, and this is a superb street with some lovely neighbours."

She continued:- "We have connected with everyone, there's a great community here and some brilliant new businesses which have moved here in recent months with the likes of Gallery Artist John Charles and Bonus Track Vinyls, plus longer established businesses such as Tapper's Cafe, The Guest House and others. Over The Moon Kids Boutique has closed, but someone is in there already getting ready to open another new business. Now we're keen to spread the word that we're here and that we're open; we'd love everyone to help us to get the word out! Come down and see us!"

Helen added:- "We stock a fabulous range of unique Christmas gifts, which will be expanding as we get closer to the festive season. We offer gifts and home decor which is beautiful, unique and eclectic, with stock that is updated constantly. No 2 visits to our shop will ever be the same! We have a great room to the rear of our shop where we'll be offering a variety of workshops soon such as Christmas wreath making, upcycling furniture, and lots more; please keep an eye on our social media pages for more details. We're really pleased to be open in Southport and can't wait to welcome everyone to come in and see what we have to offer."
