Military Vehicle Display in Hesketh Park

ON Sunday, 9 July 2026, Hesketh Park, in Southport, hosted a military vehicle display. This event was very friendly and had a host of interesting things to see, including a standard with birds of prey. An additional attraction was not planned, a tortoise that was following its owner around like a dog.

It's worth noting that if you missed this event, Hesketh Park itself hosts community trails, family fun days, and heritage walks during the summer.

Hesketh Park also hosts some out of the world activities within the:- Grade II listed Hesketh Park Observatory. Public Open Days in 2026 run on the 1st Sunday of each month (excluding January and December). At these events you can see the historic 19th Century, 6 inch Cooke refracting telescope) which is operated voluntarily by the Southport Astronomical Society. No pre-booking is required.

The Open Days are as follows:-

  • Sunday, 2 August 2026 - 10.30 am to 4.30 pm.

  • Sunday, 6 September 2026 - 10.30 am to 4.30 pm.

  • Sunday, 4 October 2026 - 10.30am to 4.00 pm.

  • Sunday, 1 November 2026 - 10.30 am to 4.00 pm.

Plus, the Southport Astronomical Society at:- The Hesketh Park Observatory officially have a public opening scheduled for the Partial Solar Eclipse on:- Wednesday, 12 August 2026. The Partial Solar Eclipse will be the deepest seen from the UK since 1999, with up to:- 96% of the sun hidden from us. with the maximum eclipse occurring between about:- 7:05 pm and 7:13 pm BST, so around 7 pm is close to the peak for most location. Please remember to bring your own viewers, and follow the safety advice given to you as this is not a Total Eclipse in the UK. A few viewing glasses will be available, if you cant get them yourself, but will have to be shared. More information to follow in our next edition about this amazing astronomical opportunity.

However, it's also worth adding, if you are invested in military vehicles don't miss the Southport Air Show. This year's show is due to be held over:- 29 August to 30 August 2026, on the Town's seafront, which will also feature an Armed Forces Military Village, and vehicle displays along Marine Drive.
