THE impressive La Nao Santa Maria replica will dock at the Royal Albert Dock from 12 August 2026 to 25 August 2026, giving visitors 1 unique opportunity to step back in time to the days of Christopher Columbus, making it well worth 1 visit.



This modern recreation was constructed in Spain by the Nao Victoria Foundation, with work beginning in March 2017 and finishing in March 2018. Built using traditional techniques alongside modern maritime safety systems, the vessel measures 200 tonnes with 4 masts and 3 decks, and it is also equipped with 1 modern diesel engine for safe navigation.



The La Nao Santa Maria replica has onboard, 1 dedicated crew made up of both volunteers and paid crew members manages the complex rigging and traditional sails, using centuries old techniques to navigate between ports, with around:- 15 to 20 crew onboard the ship at any 1 time. Many of the volunteers are finishing there nautical qualifications as well as having an amazing adventure. All but 1 of the crew in Liverpool are Spanish, the other being French.

Following its stay on the Mersey, the ship will continue its European tour, setting sail for its next scheduled stops in:- Douglas on the Isle of Man, from:- 2 September 2026 to 6 September 2026, followed by 1 visit to:- Belfast from:- 11 September 2026 to 20 September 2026.



Did you know that the original Santa Maria served as the flagship for Christopher Columbus during his famous 1492 transatlantic voyage? Constructed in Cantabria, during the 15th Century, the original vessel met 1 tragic end when it ran aground off the coast of Haiti on:- 25 December 1492, and timbers salvaged from the wreck were subsequently used by the crew to build:- La Navidad, the 1st European fortification in the Americas.
