Southport Astronomical Society Partial Eclipse Watch

ON 12 August 2026 we visited the Observatory in Hesketh Park with the Southport Astronomical Society. Many took to the beach to experience the astronomical event. Some of the watchers went deeper into the park with others watching the Moon hiding the Sun from a mound next to the Observatory. A member of the Society kindly lent out special Eclipse viewing glasses to the public and ourselves. Sadly, cloudy conditions and smoke spoilt the Perseid Meteor Shower later that night, but what an amazing experience. Big thanks to Southport Astronomical Society for your help. If you missed this event we'll the Observatory will be fully open to the public on on the following dates...

The event is accessible to all, the route is wheelchair friendly and follows the main pathways through Stanley Park. Everyone is welcome as we walk, jog, and run to remember The 97.”
