Formby Hall PGA Academy to Open New Coaching Slots in September

FORMBY Hall Golf Resort & Spa will open additional coaching slots at its PGA Academy this September in response to growing demand.

The new slots will expand the Academy's existing coaching programme and give more golfers from:- Formby, Southport, Liverpool and the surrounding area access to regular tuition at the resort.

The PGA Academy works with players of all ages and levels of experience, from complete beginners to seasoned golfers looking to improve specific parts of their game.

Sessions can cover areas including full swing, putting, short-game technique and other skills, all tailored to each golfer's level and objectives. Coaching can also make use of Formby Hall's practice facilities, which include:- a Toptracer driving range, short-game areas, putting facilities and the nine-hole Woodhey Dunes course.

David Goscombe, Director of Golf at Formby Hall Golf Resort & Spa and PGA Academy coach, said:- "We've seen strong demand for coaching across different ages and ability levels, so opening more slots in September gives us the chance to welcome more golfers into the Academy. We have a strong team of PGA professionals here, and the extra availability will help us work with more people who want to learn and improve."

Goscombe is a fully qualified PGA professional with an extensive background in coaching and player development. His role at Formby Hall also includes mentoring coaches across the Academy and ensuring consistent standards are maintained across its tuition programmes

Formby Hall has a long association with professional golf tuition. In 2008, the resort was awarded:- PGA National Residential Golf Academy status, becoming the 1st PGA National Residential Golf Academy in the UK.

UCU condemns sudden decision to cancel all A-level provision at City of Liverpool College

THE University and College Union (UCU) has expressed serious concern after City of Liverpool College announced yesterday that it is cancelling its A-level provision and withdrawing all offers made to students due to start courses this year.

Students who began their A-level studies last year will continue into their second year, but students who had accepted places for this September have been told they will need to find alternative provision. This announcement came on GCSE results day when many of the students affected were finding out their grades.

UCU was not consulted about the decision and staff were shocked by the sudden announcement. The College has told staff that there will be no redundancies and that affected staff will be offered redeployment to teach on other courses.

UCU General Secretary Jo Grady said:- "Students and staff at City of Liverpool College have been badly let down by this sudden decision. Staff have been preparing to welcome students onto A-level courses, only to be told at the last minute that those offers are being withdrawn. UCU was not consulted and we will be working with our members to make sure their interests are protected. Colleges need stable, long term funding so they can respond to changes in demand without making decisions that have consequences for students and communities for years to come. A dip in applicants one year cannot justify undermining academic provision. The government is rightly promoting technical and vocational education, but that must not come at the expense of academic routes. Students deserve a broad choice of high-quality courses and Colleges need the funding and support to provide it."
