Southport Air Show 2026

HELD 1 week later than usual to secure a headlining performance by the Red Arrows, Southport Air Show 2026 took over the seafront on:- 29 August 2026 and 30 August 2026. This calendar adjustment meant high tides coincided with peak daytime hours, significantly restricting beachfront space for ground displays and trade stalls. Despite challenging coastal weather and off-site technical issues testing organisers and spectators alike, the event delivered high-quality entertainment across the entire weekend.

Air display enthusiasts experienced a mix of thrilling routines and weather-related disruptions over the 2 days. On Saturday 29 August 2026, visitors enjoyed full flight demonstrations from the Red Arrows, Rich Goodwin in his Jet Pitts, The Starlings Aerobatic Team, the Strikemaster Display Team, the Gazelle Squadron, the Hawk T1, and Otto the Helicopter. However, low cloud cover and transit issues prevented the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight (featuring the Spitfire, Hurricane, and Dakota), the P-51D Mustang, and the Douglas A-26 Invader from taking to the sky. Technical problems and bad weather away from the site led to the complete cancellation of both the:- RAF Tutor and the AeroSuperBatics Wingwalkers, on:- 29 August 2026 and 30 August 2026.

Sunday 30 August 2026 brought another dramatic series of events. The historic P-51D Mustang and Douglas A-26 Invader successfully took to the air, joining the returning line- p of Rich Goodwin, The Starlings, the Strikemaster, Gazelle Squadron, Hawk T1, and Otto. The Red Arrows took off at:- 15:30, but a severe thunderstorm rolled in, forcing flight leaders to abort the display just 2 minutes into their routine, roughly ¼ of the way through. The storm delayed the RAF Eurofighter Typhoon, but the jet eventually took off at:- 16:15 to deliver a roaring finale once the weather cleared.

On the ground, not all traders and exhibition stalls managed to attend due to the rain. Saturday 29 August 2026 maintained a positive atmosphere despite early rainfall, while Sunday 30 August 2026 saw a noticeable demographic shift towards young families. Photographers battled shifting cloud ceilings across both days, capturing striking imagery whenever aircraft broke through the overcast sky. Organisers earned widespread praise by allowing Saturday 29 August 2026 ticket holders to re-use their passes on:- Sunday 30 August 2026.
