Liverpool Poet Ged Tompson tackles love headon with his new book!

LIVERPOOL based Poet, Author and Storyteller Ged Thompson is set to release his latest collection, Somewhere Between Heaven and Heartbreak, this November with a deeply intimate body of work that explores love, loss, and what it means to be human in a changing world.

Emerging from a background far removed from traditional literary pathways, Thompson's journey into poetry challenges long standing perceptions of who art belongs to. Having worked on nightclub doors and building sites, he never saw poetry as something accessible to working-class men. Now, his work stands as both a personal expression and a quiet disruption of that idea. "There were no poets on the nightclub doors or building sites where I'd worked. There was poetic justice, perhaps, but no poets,"

Thompson's relationship with writing began during a period of deep personal struggle. Ged explains:- "If I'm honest, it began in misery. They say poetry happens when nothing else can, and at a time when I couldn't find my way out of the darkness, it felt as though something placed a small light in my hands to navigate by. Poetry, in a very real sense, saved my life."

A chance encounter with a modern day poet led him to his 1st open mic performance; an experience that would shift the course of his life. "I was dared to read a poem I'd written for my grandad's funeral. I took the dare, and something shifted. My whole world changed," he recalls.

Since defying that pre-conception of what a poet looks like, Ged's work has been shared on stages and pages around the world. Writing across themes of love, hope and the quiet magic of being human, he explores the depth and vulnerability of the human experience. Alongside his creative work, he is also a facilitator who believes in the power of words to heal, connect and create meaningful change; giving talks and workshops at events and schools across the UK and beyond.

Somewhere Between Heaven and Heartbreak is Thompson's most personal work to date, with the stunning cover art by artist and psychotherapist Devona Hollins. Stepping away from his usual territories of magic realism and folklore, the collection writes of love, lust and loss, capturing the small, often overlooked moments that quietly shape a life. "It's very intimate. I still don't know if I've been artistically brave or silly putting something this personal out into the world. But I know it's honest, vulnerable, and heartfelt."

For Thompson, writing is more than expression; it is a tool for survival. He commented:-  "Writing is the most powerful tool I have for making sense of myself, It's the silver bullet in my mental health arsenal. It helps me untangle things that might otherwise remain unspoken." His daily commitment reflects this:- "It's the 1st thing I do each morning and the last thing I do at night. It bookends my days."

At the heart of Thompson's work is a challenge to the perceived exclusivity of poetry.. His journey reflects a broader shift in how art is accessed and who feels entitled to create it. Thompson admits:- "Socioeconomically, it seemed unlikely. I never saw poetry as something accessible to people like me. In that sense, it feels like I've stepped outside of what was expected."

The collection carries both a sense of mortality and a deep reverence for love. Thompson said:- "There's a phrase, memento mori; remember you will die -and a quieter counterpoint, memento amoris - emember to love. I hope this book carries both. That it reminds people life is fragile, but love is what gives it meaning."

Somewhere Between Heaven and Heartbreak is scheduled for official release on Sunday 15th November at Liverpool Book Festival, which is taking place at BoxPark Liverpool, and is available for pre-order until that date. The much anticipated collection of poems follows his acclaimed releases:- Middle Earth Magic, Diaries Of A Man Who Believes In Angels and The Little Book Of Heart Medicine.

12 year old girl launches cosmetic sports brand to get girls active

AT just 12 years old, Reagan Willett is already making her mark as 1 of the country's youngest entrepreneurs; and she has a very different message for the next generation of girls. Reagan is the inspiration behind:- 'Roo's by Reagan - Less is More,' is a new sporting lifestyle brand being developed with her Mum, Samantha.

Reagan has grown up and lives on the Wirral, alongside her Mum and has spent years learning about:- business, branding, strategy and entrepreneurship behind the scenes. She is currently putting that knowledge into something of her own. She has recently created a gift box containing:- creams, balms, moisturiser, shampoo, conditioner and deodorant for girls' post work out self care.

Reagan is passionate about sport, adventure and being active. Alongside her mum, Reagan takes part in an incredible range of activities, including:- show jumping with their beloved horse, martial arts, boxing, Muay Thai, karate, tennis, football, skiing and water sports. For Reagan, being active isn't a trend; it's simply the way she lives. And that's the thinking behind Roo's by Reagan; Less is More.

Reagan and Samantha have noticed how much pressure young girls can face today through social media, phones and constantly worrying about their appearance. Their message is different. They want to encourage girls to put their phones away for a few hours, get outside, play sport, make friends, try something new and enjoy being children.

Reagan believes girls shouldn't feel that they have to spend their childhood worrying about makeup, how they look or what they are doing online. Instead, she wants to bring back the confidence that comes from:- being active, adventurous and comfortable in your own skin. Put the phones away a few hours a day and go out and play… some sports.

Reagan  says that everything a sporty girl needs can be found within her new product which is now in the manufacturing stages: a compact sporting gift box designed to fit perfectly into a girl's gym bag. The box will contain everything a sporty girl needs, including:-
  •  Antifungal cream
  •  Anti chafing balm
  •  Lip recovery balm
  •  Gentle moisturiser
  •  Shampoo and conditioner
  •  Deodorant
  •  Muscle rub balm, including:- ingredients intended to help with the everyday knocks and bruising that can come with an active sporting lifestyle
The aim is to create a practical little box that girls can throw into their gym bag and take with them to training, competitions, riding, martial arts, the gym or wherever their sport takes them. And this is just the beginning. Samantha and Reagan are already planning the next stages of the Roo's by Reagan

brand. The vision is to develop a complete sporting range covering equestrian, skiing, tennis, gymwear, boxing, martial arts and other sporting equipment.

The brand is being built around Reagan's own lifestyle and the sports she loves, rather than simply creating products for a market. At the end of May, Reagan and Samantha held a pre-launch campaign at one of their martial arts events, where they gave out Roo's by Reagan gift bags. The campaign was very well received and gave them an opportunity to introduce the concept to girls and families who share their passion for sport and an active lifestyle.

Reagan has also already attracted local media attention, incliding radio appearanceson:- Wirral Wave Radio. What makes Reagan's story particularly interesting is that she isn't simply the face of a brand created by her Mum. She has grown up learning about business from Samantha, has developed her own ideas and has a very clear vision of what she wants:- 'Roo's by Reagan' to stand for!

At just 12, she is already thinking about entrepreneurship, branding and how she can use a business to encourage other young girls. Reagan wants girls to know that they don't need to spend their childhood worrying about what they look like or what is happening on social media. They can:- ride horses, box, ski, play football, do martial arts, get muddy, compete, be strong, try something completely new and have fun doing it.

With manufacturing now underway and the 1st products expected to launch in the coming months, Reagan and Samantha are looking forward to growing the brand and encouraging more girls to discover the confidence that comes from an active lifestyle.
