Friends complete Coast to Coast walk raising £3,565 for Elsie's Story, Alice's WonderDance and Bebe's Hive

2 friends who completed a coast to coast walk have raised an impressive:- £3,564.98, for Elsie's Story, Alice's WonderDance and Bebe's Hive.

Alan Goadsby and his friend John Duckworth set off from:- St Bees in Cumbria, on:- Friday, 4 September 2026, making their way across England to:- Robin Hood's Bay, in North Yorkshire.

They took on the epic challenge despite admitting that they had:- "never done anything like this before."

Alan and John followed the Coast to Coast route from:- St Bees in Cumbria to Robin Hood's Bay in North Yorkshire and did a mixture of camping and B&B / hostel / hotels each night.

Before they set off, Alan said:- "We have never done anything like this before and are not particularly fit so it will be a challenge that we are not underestimating! We have bought clothing for the trek from Alice's WonderDance, Bebe's Hive, Elsie's Story and GABA Foundation, spreading the word about the work they are doing. We are not up to running marathons so we opted for a long walk!"

They were driven on by their determination to support the 3 amazing charities set up in memory of:- Elsie, Alice and Bebe.

Their fundraising page will remain open until:- 19 November 2026 for anyone who would like to donate:- Alan Goadsby is fundraising for Elsie's Story   Alan and John's JustGiving page will remain open until:- Thursday, 19 November 2026. Please support by going to:- JustGiving.Com today.

Alan Goadsby
said:- "It has now been a couple of weeks since we completed our walk from the West Coast to the East Coast of England for donations to Alice's WonderDance, Bebe's Hive UK and Elsie's Story. A massive thank you to everyone that has donated to these 3 amazing organisations, every donation and encouraging comment spurred us on. Thank you to Alice, Bebe & Elsie, you powered every step and gave us strength when we needed it. Thanks to the families and people at Alice's WonderDance, Bebe's Hive UK and Elsie's Story for setting up organisations that help our communities, you are amazing and we wanted to support you. Thanks to the GABA girls at GABA Clothing your resilience and empowerment is inspiring and we are behind you every step of the way. Thanks to our wives and families for all their support during the planning and time away on our C2C. Thanks to Neil Bailey for transporting us to the start and collecting us from the finish line. We did the Coast to Coast for donations to Alice's WonderDance, Bebe's Hive UK and Elsie's Story. 1 donation to our JustGiving page splits the donation equally between all 3 so it's a great way to donate to all 3 organisations in 1 go. Please tick gift aid if you can and edit the JustGiving tip to £1.50 or less as they default it to more than they need."

Pupils Across Merseyside Benefit as Tesco Scheme Serves over 625K Portions of Fruit & Veg

School children across Merseyside have munched their way through more than 625,000 portions of fruit and vegetables as part of Tesco's Free Fruit & Veg for Schools programme.

During the 2nd year of the scheme, Schools across Merseyside received over:- 625,000 portions, weighing more than:- 50,000kg, helping pupils access a greater variety of fresh fruit and vegetables during the School day.

Apple was the most popular choice among Schools in the Region, accounting for around:- 185,400 portions, followed by bananas with around:- 101,000 portions and satsumas / clementines with around:- 70,000 portions.

The local figures come as Tesco reveals the wider impact of its:- 'Free Fruit & Veg for Schools Programme,' developed in partnership with the:- British Nutrition Foundation.

Across the UK, School children attending Schools supported by the programme have eaten almost 20 million portions of fruit and vegetables during the:- 1st 2 years of the scheme, reaching up to:- 186,000 pupils.

From crunchy carrots to juicy grapes, the huge amount of healthy food enjoyed by pupils has had a significantly positive impact on their nutrition – with the kids seeing an average 4.2% increase in Vitamin C intake alone in the last year.

And the scheme isn't only filling tummies but has the potential to transform pupils' behaviour as well:- 94% of teachers also reported improved behaviour from kids, including sharper focus and more energy in the classroom.

Now in its 3rd year, the:- 'Tesco Free Fruit & Veg for Schools Programme,' developed in partnership with the:- British Nutrition Foundation, has expanded to support over:- 1,000 Schools.

The latest Impact Report, which analyses the effects of the free fruit and veg on up to:- 186,000 children, found that the produce also boosted:- Vitamin A by 1.7%, fibre intakes increased by:- 2.1% and folate, which reduces tiredness, was up by:- 1.8%.

With more than 1,500 tonnes of fruit and veg provided to Schools through the programme since its inception, youngsters have sampled 103 types of fruit and veg. The most popular fruits were:- apples, bananas, oranges, kiwi and grapes; and the top vegetables were potatoes, tomatoes, cucumbers, carrots and onions.

Claire de Silva, Head of Communities at Tesco, said:- "Schools continue to tell us what a positive impact the Tesco Free Fruit and Veg for Schools programme has made on their children including sharper focus, more energy and better behaviour. Teachers all agreed that the scheme has made a positive difference to the lives of each young person it has reached. But we can do more. That's why in this academic year, we are extending the scheme even further, to include more than:- 1,000 Schools, to reach more children in the most challenged communities in the UK giving them access to the fruit and veg they need."

Pupils who participated in the 1st 2 years of the scheme ate 60 portions of fruit and veg, on average, with every single teacher asked agreeing that it has had a positive impact on their pupils. Nearly all (98%) teachers said the scheme encourages pupils to eat a wider variety of fruit and 94% reported improved behaviour.

It's also encouraged children to try new and unusual foods, including ones that can be hard to access on a restricted budget; like:- blueberries, watermelon, asparagus and more.

Elaine Hindal, Chief Executive of the British Nutrition Foundation, said:- "It's incredibly encouraging to see the difference this programme is making for children and Schools. We know that eating well can support children's health, wellbeing and ability to learn, but that access to healthy food can be a challenge. That's why we're so pleased to see the programme continuing to grow, having already provided almost:- 20 million portions of fruit and vegetables and now reaching:- 1,000 Schools. We're proud to work with Tesco on an initiative that is helping more children enjoy healthy foods and build positive eating habits that can last a lifetime."

In addition to Free Fruit & Veg for Schools, Tesco is also supporting Schools and kid's groups through its:- 'Fruit & Veg Grants' blue token scheme where customers have the chance to vote in store to award new grants to their favourite community groups.
