Statement from Care England:- "The New Health and Care Bill"

"AS the largest representative body for independent providers of adult social care, Care England has identified 5 main areas where the Health and Care Bill needs to be bolstered in order to assist real integration between health and social care. Firstly, Adult Social Care providers, for profit and not for profit, need to be directly represented on ICS NHS and Partnership Boards. Secondly, there must be a 10 year workforce plan that addresses adult social care. Thirdly, the framework around assessment of Local Authorities to be subject to consultation and moreover created as well as co-produced by providers. Fourthly, every ICS needs to fulfil a certain level of awareness and understanding of Adult Social Care. Lastly, social care plans need to be produced by the Prime Minister before ICS' come into effect. Care England will be working with Parliamentarians as the Bill makes progress through both the Houses of Parliament. Furthermore our vision, We Care for England, to be published later in the month will provide the Government with a plan as to how to deliver sustainable long term reform for the sector." Professor Martin Green OBE, CEO, Care England.

Merseyside’s Police Commissioner responds to passing of Policing Bill

MERSEYSIDE'S Police Commissioner Emily Spurrell has spoken of her concern after the controversial Police, Crime, Sentencing and Court Bill was passed without amendment. Dozens of amendments were proposed to the contentious Bill by the Labour Party, but it was approved by MPs, on Monday evening, by 365 votes to 265. Having concluded all stages in the House of Commons, the Bill will now proceed to the House of Lords to be scrutinised by Peers.

Merseyside’s Police Commissioner Emily Spurrell said:- "It's extremely disappointing that the controversial Policing, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Bill passed its 3rd reading last night, without amendment. There are elements of this Bill which cause real concern, in particular the proposed restrictions on:- 'noisy and intimidating,' protests which the Police are quite clear they do not need. This begs the questions as to why the Government wish to impose this unnecessary legislation. The right to protest is a fundamental democratic privilege, so moves by Ministers to restrict this are deeply worrying and place the Police under greater pressure. This Bill provided the perfect opportunity for this Government to show its commitment to the issues which are causing genuine concern in our communities, clamping down on:- anti social behaviour, protecting frontline shop workers and tackling and preventing violence against women and girls. Sadly, that opportunity has been wasted. By pushing through the Bill in its current state, the Government have chosen to focus their efforts on divisive measures and clamping down on legitimate forms of protest, instead of focusing on real issues, such as the protection of women and increasing the minimum sentences for rapists."
