Metro Mayor Champions Mental Health in the Workplace

FLOODING was a major issue today, with fields, roads and property being flooded by the extremely heavy downpours, that happened throughout Wednesday, 20 January 2021. The flooding on Merseyside resulted in unbelievable situations unfolding like that Tweeted by Olly Harrison, who captured Merseyside Fire and Rescue and his tractor helping a driver who had become trapped under a bridge, as flood water nearly submerged his car, on Lower Road, in Halewood, Liverpool. Interestingly the tractor within the footage, was the lead tractor within the Christmas Charity Lights Convoy that took place in Liverpool, on Sunday, 20 December 2020. Also, the footage was taken by Oliver Harrison, who was the organizer of the event.

Both Police and the Fire service are reminding people that they should not under any conditions drive through a flooded area. An emergency service spokesman said:- "Floods can hide objects and dips within the road, that can cause you to have an accident or get stuck. Conditions can change rapidly, so you may be swept away or trapped as water rises quickly. Worse still, there may be no road at all under the water, as flooding can wash away the entire road surface and a significant amount of ground beneath. This also applies to walking through it."

Also, in Formby our Editor took photos of the flooding that started to impact the Merseyrail Network, at Eccles Level Crossing.  Later on, parts of Maghull reported roads being closed as the River Alt burst its banks, yet again.

LGA responds to ₤148 million to cut drugs crime announcement

RESPONDING to Government funding of ₤148 million for cutting drugs crime and new investment in drug prevention and treatment services, Cllr Ian Hudspeth, Chairman of the Local Government Association’s Community Wellbeing Board, said:- "This new funding is a positive step in tackling the scourge of illegal drugs in our communities, while providing much needed support to those in drug treatment and recovery. The causes of substance misuse are complex, but the right support in place can help vulnerable people improve their health, rebuild relationships, find work and drive down crime and violence. Extra funding means that drug treatment and prevention can be at the heart of Councils’ local public health responses, working closely alongside the police, health service and charities. The Pandemic has also reduced access to youth services, limited time in School and left some young people struggling to find training or employment. Councils are concerned about this increasing their risk of criminal exploitation, so additional funding to tackle county lines will help to support and protect young people at risk."
