Entertainment, publishing and arts are all increasingly at risk with Brexit and Covid uncertainty adding salt into the wounds

AS case rise, on the Wirral, the Light Cinema in New Brighton have made the:- "difficult decision" to close its doors after the final showing on Christmas Eve:- "until further notice" because of Tier 2 uncertainty. They and many other businesses are very worried what will follow. People sadly in Tier 3 and the new Tier 4 London have seen people moving out of them, for parties and and socialising putting us all at risk. Also, the relaxation in Liverpool city Region has been followed by a warning being issued by Liverpool's Director of Public Health, that Level 2 restrictions are failing to prevent a spike in virus cases in the latest suggestion that stricter measures are on the way, yet Government is yet to give any meaningful support to the majority of arts, publishing and media industry, who are struggling since march. Many freelancers and small business owners have also not had any or very little work, since March, but have not been able to access the Grants or get financial support. The Government must start to act, or the UK will risk a tide wave of not only Covid19 cases, but also job losses and bankruptcies for 2021. Many small businesses are also struggling to get ready for Brexit, and the added uncertainty is not what our UK economy needs. But, we must get this virus in check and doing so will require the Government to help everyone who has been excluded excluded.

British Transport Police warning to:- 'train surfers' on Merseyside

ON 21 December 2020 the British Transport Police have condemned an incident of train surfing posted on social media which shows someone standing on the coupler between 2 units travelling at speed on the Northern Line of the Merseyrail system. Enquiries are ongoing into identifying the person and those who filmed and posted the video. Although the footage, which Officers have describe as:- "extremely concerning," has since been deleted from social media, British Transport Police have a copy of the video and are investigating those involved.

PC Jane McGee said:- "Although relatively rare this is incredibly dangerous and remarkably stupid. We are increasing patrols in the area we suspect this happened and appeal to those tempted to put their lives on the line like this to think again and consider just how dangerous it is and the likely consequences. They are gambling with their lives."

Greg Suligowski, Head of Communications at Merseyrail, said:- "It is extremely concerning to see this video which appears to show an individual trespassing on the railway, placing themselves and others at significant risk. We are working closely with the British Transport Police to identify those involved so that appropriate action can be taken. The non-public areas of the railway can be a very dangerous environment and I would urge people not to attempt to access them under any circumstances."

Anyone with information is asked to contact British Transport Police on:- 0800405040 or text:- '61016.'
