PHILHARMONIC TO HOST SINGING ARCHITECT

MEMBERS of the Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra are to team up with an unlikely source of musical talent for a charity concert on Sunday – An Architect!

Nigerian born Tayo Aluko is taking time out from his job to perform with orchestral players from all over the Northwest with well-known local artistes such as Jazz Diva SuEyo from the River Niger Orchestra with the event lasting two days and a special guest appearance from renowned Liverpool poets Levi Tafari and Colin Watts.

Tayo himself is no stranger to fame. He was recently featured as the soloist in a recent Granada TV episode of ‘My favourite Hymns’, singing ‘Ol’ man river and for this event he is to also team up with top soprano Ann Taft.

The event will take place at the Liverpool Philharmonic Hall at 2.30p.m September 14, as Tayo relives moments from an earlier performance made at Manchester’s Bridgewater Hall that featured the Halle orchestra.

CROSBY ‘FIRST FESTIVAL’ DUBBED A SUCCESS

Report and photographs by Dominic Bonner

FESTIVAL fever may have been over for some time for southern and eastern parts of England, but that was not to stop Crosby having its rather late day with the first ever festival held in the small town.

Bars bustled with revellers attending the festival as buskers, didgeridoo street performers, the Crosby Operatic Society and the Ferguson school of Irish Dance entertained with children from St.Edmunds school, Oxford road who took centre stage - proving to be a hit with the crowd.

Unsurprisingly, local bands from their well known hangout wine bar, Stamps – who organised the event courtesy of manageress Jackie Benn – came out in force to bolster the day with superb live performance of old songs that included many Beatles tracks. Other notable performances came from opera singer Sara Helsby-Hughes and a brave solo from young nine-year-old flute protégé Luke Lowen.

Sefton Arts Development officer Brian Wake said:- “We are delighted with the crowds that turned up on the day and the atmosphere was electric. We will be certainly be supporting this successful festival next year with some more added features to the attraction.”
