DEALER OF THE YEAR AWARD WINNER ‘STAR MAN ROY’
Report and photograph with thanks to Nicky Brownhill at Siren PR

LIVERPOOL man tops Motability’s Silver Jubilee customer-led quest to find the best specialist car salesperson in the country. Motability, the leading car scheme for disabled people, has announced the winner of its ‘Dealer of the Year’ Silver Jubilee award. Roy Pearman, an accredited Motability Specialist at Peoples Liverpool Ltd, Bootle has emerged as Motability’s ‘Dealer of the Year’ following a campaign that asked Scheme users to nominate Motability car salespeople who have been outstanding in their levels of service. Over 2,500 nominations were received in the campaign to find Motability’s ‘Dealer of the Year’.

Not only did Roy Pearman receive by far the highest number of customer nominations, but the letters and comments which Motability received concerning his role as an accredited Motability specialist were outstanding. Without exception, his customers recognised a “nothing is too much trouble” attitude and commented simply that he is “a very nice man”. Customers particularly valued his commitment and hailed Roy as “a quality representative for disabled people”

Roy Pearman, from Litherlands, Liverpool has been a Motability specialist at Peoples Liverpool Ltd for 14 years. His work has been valued and appreciated by his customers, including one Motability Scheme motorist who hailed his dealer as “Star Man Roy” for his “caring attitude and dedication”.

Speaking about his achievement Roy says:- “I am completely shocked! This is great news for Peoples and for me. I just cannot believe that out of the whole country and all the different manufacturers and dealerships who provide Motability services, I have come out top! I really didn’t expect this and it is absolutely fantastic. I enjoy meeting the Motability Scheme customers and am delighted that these customers also value the relationship we have. Motability is a great scheme that gives people the chance to get out and about; we are able to make sure they never have any hassles when it comes to their car, which makes it great for all of us.”

Commenting on the Motability Silver Jubilee Awards, director of Motability, Noel Muddiman says:- “The Silver Jubilee Awards were announced as part of our plans in this special year to reward and congratulate the Motability specialists in car dealerships around the UK who are our face-to-face contact with Scheme users. The response has been outstanding and we have been overwhelmed by the actions of car salesmen, such as Roy, who have shown exceptional levels of courtesy and expertise when dealing with people who use the Motability Scheme.”

Roy Pearman received his ‘Dealer of the Year’ award from Noel Muddiman, director of Motability and Mike Betts, Chief Executive of Motability Operations. In addition, Chairman and Managing Director of Peoples Ford, Brain Gilda was on hand to see Roy receive his award. Other members of the Peoples team who have achieved special recognition in the Motability Silver Jubilee Awards include Zafar Mohammed (nominated in the top 25 of Motability specialists in the UK) of Peoples Liverpool Ltd, Speke Hall Road, Ken Gardiner of Peoples Liverpool Ltd in Bootle and Ray Todd of Peoples Liverpool Ltd of Bridge Hall Road, Prescot.

There are currently around 400,000 Motability customers in the UK, making it Europe’s largest car fleet. There are around 12,000 Scheme users in the Liverpool area alone and up to 40,000 in the North West. Motability offers car lease and purchase options specifically to people who are eligible for the higher rate mobility component of the Disability Living Allowance. This means that new, reliable cars (with specific adaptations in some cases) are widely affordable, offering increased freedom and independence.

Brass Night on the Prom
December 5th 2003 8.00pm
Venue:- Southport Theatre, The Promenade
Ticket Price £10.00

THE Rotary Club of Southport Links is holding it's third annual Proms concert, raising funds for local charity. Last years concert raised over £3,000 with the main beneficiary being a local Society for the Blind. Providing them with scanners that allow people to read magnified print through their televisions

This year we have the award winning Leyland Brass Band returning for the third time to entertain with their fabulous repertoire of music. The band is currently enjoying the status that comes with winning the 2003 All England Masters competition for the third time. Only five bands have won this prestigious annual competition since its inception in the 1980's so here is an opportunity to see one of the country's top bands at a local venue.

Supporting the Leyland Band is Warrington Male Voice Choir. Winners of the Sligo International Male Voice Choir competition 2002 and national champions from 1994 to 1997, this is a choir at the top of the tree.

This years concert will be a superb night of traditional entertainment with many favourite pieces being played and a grand finale including "Land of Hope & Glory Rule Britannia and Jerusalem" to rouse the spirits and get those flags waving!

We are also very pleased to announce that the Mayor of Sefton, Councillor David Pearson will be in attendance at the concert.

Profits from the evening are being donated to the "Dreams Come True Charity" which enables terminally ill children achieve their dreams.

In addition to the funds raised on the evening, one of our members also made a supreme effort to raise funds by running in the New York Marathon just a few weeks after celebrating his 60th birthday. Chris Sumner, the Sefton Coroner and a founder member of our club decided to run after hearing of the amazing work carried out by the "Dreams Come True Charity". Although the charity is a national charity, the money raised through these two events is being targeted at local children who are benefiting from the charity.

Liverpool Burglary rates at new Low

THE UK's first scientific study into a pioneering scheme in Liverpool has revealed the gates cut burglary by a third and reduce home owners stress levels.
In a 32 page report, researchers at the University of Liverpool's Environmental Criminology Research Unit say the scheme is also saving millions of pounds in police time, insurance claims, court costs and valuables lost.
The study found that a year after installation the gates prevented 727 burglaries, saving an estimated £2,300 each.

Liverpool's Executive Member for Housing and Community Safety, Councillor Flo Clucas said:- ''This study shows that alley gates are beating burglary and anti-social behaviour. We now have scientific proof that alleygates reduce crime and the fear of crime.''
The year long study was based on Merseyside police data from 2000 - 2003, covering more than 3,000 properties, and more than 500 homeowners were interviewed before and after the gates were installed.
