Gay Wedding

GAY weddings, or we should say affirmations, are becoming more and more common in the UK and Southport, had its first on December 5, when Jean Pierre Meyer and Christopher Darren Robinson pledged their commitment to each other at the Southport Town Hall.

We were kindly invited to see this bit of Southport’s history being made.

Being the first of its type in Southport, although not the first in the UK, it has taken them a lot of courage to do this. This was echoed by all the participants of the ceremony who all said the ceremony was conducted in a sensitive way. The ceremony was extremely interesting, much like any other wedding ceremony, but without many of the normal trappings such as wedding march and unveiling of the bride. The ceremony had a lot more impact than many a ‘normal’ wedding, even though the ceremony still does not carry any legal or religious significance. The atmosphere was relaxed, far more emotional than I anticipated it was going to be, but reserved at the same time.

We wish all the best to the two of them and would also like to say good luck.
Congratulations to you both.
