COASTGUARDS TAKE TO THE AIR WITH BALLOON RACE AT OPEN DAY EVENT

LOCAL families will have the opportunity to win £100 WH Smith vouchers or limited edition Sea Smart Teddy Bears by taking part in the FREE Sea Smart balloon race to be organised by our local Coastguard team at their open day at the Liverpool Coast guard station which is taking place on 4th September. A free Sea Smart goody bag will be given to every child entering the race.

The Liverpool Coastguard team will be hosting the day and will hold the balloon race as part of its Maritime and Coastguard Agency Sea Smart campaign, which promotes sea and beach safety to parents of young children to reduce the large number of preventable accidents and deaths on our coastline every year.

They will be raising awareness of the vital work they carry out following the results of recent research that showed nearly half of parents (49%) do not know that the Coastguard is an emergency service and like the Police, Fire Service and Ambulance can be called by dialling 999.

To take part in the free balloon race call in to Crosby Coastguard station on the open day and ask to enter the competition.

North West Heats, Search For A Star 2004

Winners of Heat 4.  (Above)

HEAT 4 held on the Thursday 26 August was one of the most interesting yet. Opening the night was 14 year old rising star Leah Murphy. She is too young to compete in the competition, but considering her age, by the time she is ready to enter, she will be the one to put you cash on. The night was full of variety. After Leah's stunning performance came a large medley of singers from classical to pop, even a band called Red Eye and amazing juggling by Steve Arnold.

The winner was Steve Arnold, 21, from Sutton Coldfeild. In second place was Francis Williams (stage name Darrelll Isaacs) from Liverpool, both of them will be going through to the semi finals. In third place was Liz Rushton, 18, from Southport.

Well done to all of you who contributed to a very memorable evening of high class entertainment.

If you missed this week's action, don't forget next week's show at the same time, 7:30pm, same place... Southport Arts Centre. You would be mad to miss it.

The other contestents were:- Amanda Dudlet, Melanie Jones 16 from Melling, Adele Meredith, 33 from Southport, Danielle Reddin, 16 from Broadgreen, Liverpool, Tracie Steele from Wallasey, Kelly Marie Traynor aged 25 from Waterloo, Racheal Walker aged 20 from Greasby on the Wirral and Leanne Martyn aged 18 from Burnley.
