Meols Cop High School, Exhibition in Arts Center
Report by Ian Dexter

THE project was set up by Sefton Arts Development as a result of a photographic exhibition of professional poets writing autobiographical poems. I took thirty students from Southport's Meols Cop high School, all aged from 12 to 16, to meet local poet, Curtis Watt, who ran a poetry workshop while photographer Barry Jackson took off-beat photos of the students with an item that meant something to the sitter. Back at school the young poets got to work and their efforts were published in a book along with their photos. Sefton Arts were so impressed with their efforts that they launched an exhibition on 9 September at the Arts Centre.  Don't panic if you haven't seen it yet, as it runs until October 8.
