Firework Spectacular
Photographs by Patrick Trollope

....continued....  competition so thought we were in with a slim chance. This is only the second time we have taken part and were the reserve the first time so didn't have time to prepare. This time we were drawn from the beginning. The whole team is absolutely delighted. We can't believe it. We are on cloud nine at the moment It was also such a privilege to work alongside such good companies and everyone helped each other out, as the conditions weren't ideal on the beach because of the wet weather." One of the Allstars team told our editor "Well that's one show we will always remember."

What we found fantastic about all the teams was their willingness to help each other and also to talk to the spectators.

Lord Fearn, the cabinet member for Sefton's Leisure and Tourism Department said:- "What a truly spectacular show. The competition just gets better and better. The weather was excellent on both nights, which contributed t the enormous amount of people who turned up to watch the shows. The new location was also very popular giving spectators even better views of the displays."

A judge, Tony Cardell, a Past President of International Pyrotechnics Society, said:- "This year all the teams achieved very high standards but the judges awarded First Prize to Allstar for the excellence of their display presentation. They used a wide selection of music and their whole spectrum of noise and colour were innovative and imaginative. The choreography of the fireworks was excellent. All the other teams did exceedingly well but Allstar were exceptional and very worthy winners."

Also in the crowd was the United Kingdom Firework Review who told us "This is a fantastic example of a well organised and safe display. Well done to all involved. Our members really enjoyed the show. With the run up to November 5 we would also like to add that if you are planning on setting off fireworks for yourself or family and friends this year, please do remember to do so in accordance with the Firework Safety Code. Remember, too, that there are new laws this year that are intended to curb firework abuse and nuisance. Thankfully the new laws will not affect events like Southport's but they do affect you. If you want to put on a show and this has wet your appetite, then visit our web page for safety information and also lots of tips and reviews of domestic fireworks. Our URL is
