                  by Patrick Trollope. WIDNES Rotary
Club presented a cheque for £365 to North West Air Ambulance to
            launch  "Operation Alfie" on
            Merseyside.
             "Operation
Alfie" is a new major initiative to raise funds and
maximum awareness of the North West Air Ambulance (NWAA), the only
regional medical air emergency service and registered
            charity.
             The Costing £75,000
every month to maintain the NWAA receives no mainstream
funding.  The NWAA relies on goodwill of people and companies
in the region for donations to cover its area of 5,500 square miles
and a resident population of seven million people.
             The launch of "Operation
Alfie" was started with a flying visit around the North
West and former patients attended at every destination to show their
support.   Over all £23,000 was donated in the two days
from companies and volunteers eager to see this vital life line
continued.   Widnes Rotary Club presented their cheque
when the helicopter landed at Stanley Park in Liverpool on Tuesday 2
            November.
             Lynda Brislin, chief
executive for the NWAA told us that:- "Businesses and
volunteers have been good to us with their donations in the past and
we need this to continue.  We are extremely grateful to Widnes
            Rotary Club for their donation."
